Added Ross cover B. That's right. I broke down and bought myself a variant cover. Mark your calenders, because it probably won't happen again. But, for $1 and to have that whole Alex Ross picture, I couldn't talk myself out of it.

I got my sold-out print of the Alex Ross Superpowers #0 image from my local retailer last week as he happened to have ordered one before they went the way of the dodo. I'm hoping that all of the Project Superpowers covers get made into prints (I have the #1 cover as well) so that I can fill up a wall with them.

I think they exposed the fact that Dynamic Man was a robot... too soon. But they are the story-tellers.... so we'll see what happens next.
I wonder just how many heroes and villains are included in this series??
I thought it was going to be "just"
The Black Terror
The Green Lama
The 'Devil
Samson
The Crusaders
F-Troop
Masquerade
Pyroman
Mr. Face
The Owl
The Flame
The Arrow
The Scarab
and The American Spirit...
But now we also see that others may be brought in.
Hydro
Silver Streak
Captain Future
The Woman in Red
The Target and The Targeteers
Cat and
Kitten
Strongman
Major Victory
Dynamic Man
Dynamic Boy
Dynamic Woman
and the Dynamic Forces!!
And maybe... The CLAW!!
This looks like an Epic in story-telling... and I hope Alex and Jim can handle everyone. And make each a significant part of the story.
Could be really Fun!!
Did I miss anyone??
And maybe more will be shown next issue!! Yeooow!!

Well, having researched these characters the last several weeks/months, I already knew D-Man was an android. What surprised me about that was that the other characters didn't know. I was referring to his being a villain, knowing about the urn, trying to kill all those inside, possibly being part of a plot stretching all the way back to WWII, etc. I don't think there's a set number of characters they'll use in this series. They'll focus on some, but there's an endless supply of supporting cast members at their disposal.

Yes, MadMikey
I guess I knew he, D-Man, was an android, too.!! But maybe the fact that he was an andriod had been nearly forgotten by everyone ... especially when Ricky, Dynamic Boy, was passed off as his brother. The ol' "artificial man with a brother-- trick"!
The Terror used the word, "Robot"... instead of "android". ??? Maybe just because he was more familiar with that term.
I don't pretend to really know how Krueger will spin the story... as far as "the other characters not knowing." Maybe in their world --- not many people knew he was really an android. (Maybe only the reader knew!!)
Mike, as far as "referring to him being a villain" ---"knowing about the urn", "trying to kill all those inside", ...
MAYBE they don't know. They've been in a kind of "suspended animation" ... a magical suspended animation of a kind... so maybe they aren't really aware of all of this yet. And when Dynamic Man meets The Black Terror-- what does he say?? "You still do not know what has happened, do you?"
The Black Terror was aware that he had been sucked up in the Urn... and that The Patriot was behind it. The Black Terror was going after Bruce for his treachery...
The Terror's fight wasn't with Dynamic Man... until Dynamic Man threw him off the building. (Which gets you to switch focus. )
My guess--- and I'm not trying to upstage what Jim might do--- is that most of the heroes don't know much more than that they have been tricked by the Patriot ... and sucked up in this vessel... where they've been held against their will...(for how long they don't exactly know.) They've been magically sustained. The rest will soon dawn on them.
And they are not aware that Dynamic Man tried to keep them in suspended animation in this "never-neverland void" forever.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with "an endless supply" of supporting cast members.
I think we should get some kind of limit on who's returned.
I don't care if it's 30 or 40... or how many. In my humble opinion, we should have some idea who has returned and ...who hasn't!!
Where's Crimebuster?? Where's IronJaw?? Miss Victory?? Did the Fighting Yank get Magno AND Davey?? The Eagle and Buddy?? The Black Angel???
Who didn't he get... and why???
We know some of who he did get:
Besides the Black Terror & 'Devil he got:
Target and the Targeteers
The Flame and Flame Girl
Pyroman
The Face
Miss Mask (Masquerade)
The Owl
and now we see these others:
Hydro(man)
Silver Streak
Captain Future
The Woman in Red
Cat(man) and Kitten
Strongman and
Major Victory!!
I'm excited to see who else has been "taken"... :D and who we'll see return!!
But I hope it's a limited number... not an "endless" number!! Even if it takes a couple of years to account for everyone!!

Well, in issue #0 we only 'saw' Yank trap:
The Flame
The Black Terror
Pyroman
The Face
Miss Masque
(Dare)Devil
The Arrow
Skyman
Rainbow Boy
The Raven
Kitten
Boy King
The Liberator
Captain Courageous
American Eagle
The Super American
V-Man
The Target & The Targeteers
Dynamic Man and Dynamic Boy are androids, so they're still around.
Samson, to me, looks like he was not in the urn, and has aged accordingly. The same with Fighting Yank, of course.
Green Lama has become one with the earth, allowing him to still be around.
Upcoming covers/solicitations show us at least Hydro(man) was apparently trapped as well.
So, there are ways for characters to get into the 'present time' other than the urn. Factor in things like the old stand-bys like time travel and cryogenics, and we have an endless supply of supporting characters. Just like any Marvel or DC super hero title.

5-pages from the end of the story... there is a panel with the Fighting Yank with his hand held up to his head... thinking...remembering the faces of those he evidently sucked up into the urn...
My question is: Who are these guys??
Some of them I think I recognize.
Skyman
Boy King
Kitten
The Arrow
The Liberator
The Raven
Captain Courageous???
Who's the guy in the lower picture with the Green hood on!!
Who the guy above him? and above him?? and the kid with a "V" on his chest?? And the guy with a funny rainbow hat on his head??
So, maybe all these guys were in the Urn, too. Who knows who they are??

Sooo, MadMikey,
Who's the guy in the lower picture with the Green hood on!!
Who's the guy above him with a silverhood-like deal? And above him --in yellow and purple with a star?? And the kid with a "V" on his chest?? (V-Man??)

I think the green hooded guy is an erroneously placed picture of the Lama, but I could be mistaken. The guy above him is the Super American. The guy in purple is the Raven, unless you're referring to Boy King. The guy with the V, I believe, is intended to be V-Man - he's the only guy on the list Stephen Sadowski provided who wears a V.

Yea, that's what I thought, too!! An "erroneously placed" picture of the Green Lama.!! (No wonder the whole story doesn't make sense to me! :) Just kiddin'!!)
-- So, the guy above him is Super American!! OK!! Great! thanks!!
As far as the "kid" with the V- on his chest... Turn to Fighting Yank's War Journal...the second page. I thought that the guy to the far-left on the page was V-Man.!! With the mask...
And the guy just below him ... was the American Eagle. (the guy just under Uncle Sam's right arm.)????
I know who the Raven is. I know who the Boy King is!! I meant the guy to the upper right of the Raven.... between the Raven and Captain Courageous!!
Who's that guy??
MadMikeyD

I believe that's the American Eagle.
Kool beans!! Thanks!! I couldn't make him out. I thought the American Eagle's costume was more red-white-and blue???
OK.!! Now the really tough question.... Who are the two costumed heroes that The Yank was reflecting on in the top two panels... just above V-man.. and up and to the left of the Arrow??? Heh! Heh!! Those two are a little harder to identify. Is this where the story-teller is telling us, the reader, that this is a "limitless"... or "endless" cast of characters that are returning??
Do you think the Yank got Cat(Man)??? I hope so. Katie Conn(Kitten) isn't much without David Merrywether(Cat-Man)!! :)

If this is the case... I still don't know who those other guys are??? :(

Because of the pending lawsuit, I don't know if there will be an endless stream of characters? They might be able to use some, in favor of others that won't be able to appear because of the suit. Don't know if the lawsuit has already been filed, if an when it filed has a cease and desist order attached to it? I hope Dynamite can use most of the characters. I think it was a brilliant idea, to bring back all of these forgotten characters. Black Terror is downright scary to me. Scarier than the Batman.

He can't really claim he owns copyright - the record is fairly clear in that regard. However, he can potentially claim that he owes trademarks - though I doubt that's the case with Black Terror
Edit: more here (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125175&page=2)
Edit 2: a quick search of US Patent and Trademark Office's database reveals that the only "live" trademarks for Black Terror and Green Lama belong to "Super Power Heroes, LLC", an entity that is also listed as owner of "Project Superpowers" trademark. Seems fairly cut-and-dry to me

Yea, sounds good to me.!!
I wonder what Dynamite E. has to say about this whole thing.
Does anyone know where this might be being discussed.???
Have you guys seen Bill Black's Green Lama books... headed our way.. at $6.00 a copy??
Bill is ... or has been... too small to handle many of these guys. He doesn't seem to have the capital to hire top-grade writers and Artists to "carry" many of these "public domain"... heroes.
OK, so am I right in thinking that because these heroes are in the "public domain" ... that anyone can do their version of them... and NOBODY really owns these heroes... and no one can "get" control of them by simply publishing a book on their adventures.??? And Dynamite E. has every right to publish these heroes.!!
Is that "right thinking" on this??
Wished Dynamite could or would clarify this. Or somebody that KNOWS for sure.
Otherwise, why would Black try to contol Trademarks.??

To put it as simply and as succinctly as possible.
Once a character falls into public domain, that character's copyright can't be claimed by anyone else. Now, specific versions of the characters - such as Eclipse version of Black Terror, AC Comics version of Black Terror, Terra Obscura version of Black Terror and, yes, Dynamite Entertainment version of Black Terror - can be copyrighted, but the original Golden Age Black Terror is free to be used by anyone and everyone.
Unfortunately, that's not all. Because, while public domain characters are out of copyright forever, they can still be trademarked. AC Comics, for example, trademarked Miss Masque, while Eclipse trademarked Black Terror. The former is still in force , the later has lapsed, allowing "Super Power Heroes, LLC" to claim it last year. Trademarks are important for branding purposes - Miss Masque can be used in Project Superpowers, but Dynamite Entertainment can't, for example, publish a comic book titled "Miss Masque" or put out a "Miss Masque" action figure. AC Comics, on the other hand, can do both. This is why Miss Masque is called "Masquerade" in Superpowers.

What about the Green Lama...???
It looks as though Bill Black is coming out with G.L.... and so, DE can't come out with a Green Lama comic book or action figure!! Right??
So, this whole thing by Black ....could really hurt the direction of DE??

Added a "Golden Age Printout Collection (http://www.dynamiteentertainment.com/boards/showpost.php?p=10168&postcount=30)" list. With so much Golden Age Public Domain material readily available online, there's no shortage of Project Superpowers related material to read. My problem, I hate reading comics on my computer screen. My solution, I save the comic to my computer and then print the stories I want to read. Right now I'm printing in b&w (like most of the reprints currently out there for sale) and keeping them in a binder. Eventually, I want to print in color and have them bound into a one-of-a-kind hardcover book.
If anyone else is interested, I primarily use these websites to find these stories:
Golden Age Comic Downloads (http://goldenagecomics.co.uk/index.php)
Bill Nolan's Pure Excitement Comics (http://home.comcast.net/~pfeonline/)

Do you have any of the AC Men of Mystery reprints. They're pretty good and usually have a nice mix of characters.

I'm missing the one from issue #4 and was there anything in the FCBD of "The Death Defying Devil"? Could some one post those pics or links to them? Thanks!

No one else has answered you, Ghornet.... so I will.
Yea, I've got a good number of Bill Black's reprints.
Two that I have that I "hold close" are...
Men of Mystery... The Nedor Heroes!! (Spotlight Special)
and ... The Official Golden Age Hero & Heroine Directory!!
Do you have those two??

I've got the Directory but not the Nedor Spotlight. I've been picking them up little by little. I'd like to see a second directory with more heroes.

So would I.... like to see a second directory with more heroes.
I tried to contact Bill and express my desire to see more focus put on these returning Golden Age heroes.
He didn't return the call. (Remember I used to work for him.) So,-- I'm not exactly sure where he is on this.
To me, -- he should look at who's returning at Dynamite... and "craft" some of the reprint books toward these SP issues.
Would we buy issues of Men of Mystery if the book had adventures of The Green Lama, The Black Terror, Daredevil, The Flame, Miss Masque, Samson, Hydroman, Pyroman, The Arrow, Target and the Targeteers.???
Well, geeee.!! I think so. I would.!! Just to get a sense of who these heroes and heroines were in the Golden Age. To get a little background on who they were...
So... I thought it was a good suggestion to throw his way... but ?????
Some of his reprint books have heroes that don't connect to these SP heroes.
Some of the books are TOO DIVERSE!! If ya know what I mean. So, I don't buy some of the books.
I would like more "themed" books.
The Spotlight on the Nedor Heroes has stories of The Black Terror, Fighting Yank, Doc Strange, The Woman in Red, Pyroman, Princess Pantha, The Grim Reaper, Miss Masque, ... and a story of "Looie Lazybones" by Frazetta. Plus a several paged article on the Nedor Heroes.
The theme of The Nedor Heroes!

There are two other MoM Spotlight issues out now. The second volume focuses on the Black Terror exclusively. The third features the Fox Features characters (The Flame, Samson, etc.).
I do not own any of these. I've been downloading Golden Age comics and reading them that way, printing out my favorites so far. Not that I'm opposed to the AC reprints. It's just that they're a little pricey for me, especially for b&w.

On the subject of b&w reprints, I found these guys last night. "Age of Adventure" - published through Lulu. It looks like they have comparable price and size to MoM, but their issues focus on one character. That's more along the lines of what I would want in a b&w reprint book. They're also doing some color reprints.

*Edit: I have of a copy of Age of Adventure's Legendary Heroes #2 (featuring The Target & The Targeteers) on the way. I'll give it a review after I get a chance to look it over.

Yes, please let us know what you think of the book. I'm very tempted to buy Legendary Heroes #2 ... myself.
And a couple of the others: the Black Terror ... and Skyman. Wished they were in color... at an affordable price... but this looks like the best we can do right now.
I'm anxiously awaiting your review.... and what you think of the format.
Are the stories in order??? Are they indexed in the front of the book??

Unfortunately, I have yet to receive the book. I did not order it - I won it in a contest. After some problems at the publisher (returned package, hurricane damage), I have been assured it is on its way again, so I expect it in the near future. I've communicated with the publisher and know that he hand-picked the stories included based on what he felt were the best, both story and art-wise. He elected not to include the first appearance and origin stories because he felt the art was somewhat lacking in those. I do not believe the sources of the stories are listed, but he said they are planning to do that starting with Legendary Heroes #3 (Hillman's Air Heroes). Once I actually receive the book I'll let you know my opinions.
BTW - The Frankenstein and Skyman books are in color...

Cool.!! ;)
Thanks for letting us know about the books.
Wished DE would reprint the heroes for us.... and give us the backgrounds of the heroes that would be fun to have. It would give us those stories of the heroes.... (the "foundations") ....on which they are built.

Captain Z, you asked about the Target reprint book. It is nicely done but all the stories can be read for free on Prescription for Excitement and the Library. It is hard to believe that they couldn't pick stories that had not been on Prescrition already.
