Thread: Red Sonja Action Figures?

  1. #1

    Default Red Sonja Action Figures?

I'm surprised to see such an expensive statue ($199) solicited in Previews already, but still no action figures. Whether it's a mildly articulated figure line like say some of the Diamond Select stuff (like Firefly, just announced in previews), or a highly detailed and articulated series ala Marvel Legends, I know it'd sell like hotcakes. Especially with different sculpts/costumes (can you imagine how much a Previews Exclusive figure with removable chainmail bikini would sell for!)

Is it just me, or is it srange that the popularity of RJ #0 (over 200k copies) isn't being capitalized on, and they're concentrating only on variant covers and high priced statues.

I'd like to see a set of action figures produced by McFarlaine. If possible, something that could be used as companion peices to their Conan line.

    well

the statue and the prints are means for capitalization and we have still a week before #0 is even coming out!!!

I would rather say that I have yet to see a better marketing then what is happening with Red SOnja to date!!!!

And word is out that besides this series also a mini is planned (at least a writer has been asked for it...messner-loeb or what was his name???) and a special 30+page oneshot is scheduled for late summer or early fall pencilled by LIAM SHARP

I'll just be pleased when all the variant covers / incentives are out of the way and we get to see if they are telling a good_story_.

Good initial marketing, but not backed up by enough product. Art is superb, and the story is good, but where are the affordable busts (heh) and action figures? Statues that are a few hundred bucks is a little unaffordable for most people.

I couldn't agree more. The McFarlane Conan range is superb, and since there will probably never be a chance to have an actual figure series with both these characters, it would be great if McFarlaine could make a separate Red Sonja series of figures, and just make them the same style and size as the Conan ones, therefore pleasing the thousands of fans out there who want to see Red Sonja standing beside Conan again.

There wouldn't have to be any ties at all between the two figure lines other than the company making them, so hopefully no lawsuits.

And if McFarlane were unable to make the figures, at least whoever does could try and make them the same scale and style, which worked perfectly for the Conan series of figures. They looked realistic, yet still like their comic counterparts. This would be awesome for Sonja figures.

But who else could be in the series of figures? Most runs have four or five characters, usually with a variant of the main character to choose from. I'd like to see Red Sonja in her chainmail bikini, and perhaps a variant with the coat she wears in Savage Red Sonja (or just as an extra accesory). Osin would definitely have to be in there too. Perhaps the Wolf-man and the Celestial as well.

That's a good point - I'm always more concerned with what's between the covers than what's on them. If the cover is nice too, well then I'm extra happy, but I've never felt the need to have them all either.

Me, I'm not much of an action-figure man myself (although MacFarlane's gear is mighty temptin'). Miniatures though - gimme those any day (funnily enough, working on one at the moment which is a dead-ringer for Frank Cho's take on "Savage Red Sonja"!)!

Actually, I reckon that whole crew that Fa assembles back in Issue #3 to go with Sonja to get the knife blade taken out of her would make excellent figures, especially if the sculptors stayed faithful to Rubi's artwork!

I'd kill for a Red Sonja PVC figurine!

This one is mighty nice, but cost for bust are a bit too high for me...

This statue is awesome, but problem I see to is is it doesnt look like the Red Sonja I read about in the comic... she looks more like an house wife with aluminum bikini :-/ She looks "too nice" and not enough "barbaric" plus the 160$ price... ouch!
