Thread: Last Phantom ending?

    Default Last Phantom ending?

Some fans have pointed out that there hasn't been any solicits beyond issue 11. Does this mean the series is ending with the upcoming Annual? I hope not.

    Man, I hope not, either.

Not necessarily. It could just be because the book is late. #11 was due for July and #8 came out just a couple of weeks ago. So there's no point in soliciting #12 for August when you know full well you're not going to get #9 through #11 out by then.

They HAVE announced when a series has reached its conclusion (Kato Origins, for example) and they don't do that for #11 so I guess (and hope) it continues.

After being told at Comic-Con that the series had gone bi-monthly, this could just be the next step. I'm sure the general dissatisfaction of fans and the piles of back issues at dealers weren't going away anytime soon. A number of fans that were still waiting the book out have said they dropped out after seeing the way the character of Heloise is being handled. As for dealers, those who have complained about having a large number of back issues on hand and had hoped to be able to sell more of them if release of new issues was slowed down, they have continued to cut down orders of the new books.

Some have speculated that with the content of the annual based on the previous Phantom, it may signal a new direction for DE's handling of the Phantom, but I'm not holding my breath.

The series is bi-monthly, so the solicits may have dropped on a month that the book isn't planned to come out. I haven't heard any rumblings of the books cancellation so I don't think anything is going to happen to it anytime soon, though I could be wrong as sales for the book have dropped over the past 3 issues.

Since you wrote this, #12 has been solicited for November. So I guess the January solicitations will confirm comixfan's theory.

Thank God. The Ghost Who Walks needs a presence on the comic market that stole so much from him to begin with.

So much for that, Phantom isn't showing up in January now.

I'm getting seriously fed up. How many books have seen be referred to as a mini, then an ongoing, then back to mini with discrepencies in the number of issues, etc. How can a company not even communicate THAT properly?

Series end with no announcement. They just stop showing up on the shelves. Or they become bi-monthly, also with no announcement. But you want me to get excited about acquisitions like Shadow and Spider?

DAMNIT. At least I hope we will get a real ending, a finale to Kit Walker's journey. Fingers crossed.

    This is very sad.

Have to admit I haven't been entirely satisfied by this series. Doesn't seem like Dynamite really brought their A-game to this franchise. No better or worse than the earlier version from Moonstone, but my expectations were higher with Dynamite. Some nice Alex Ross covers, though.

Alas, I dispair for its continuation. The Phantom really is a classic character, and deserves better.
