    My poor bank balance............

I love Warlord of Mars, but more than two books a month will cripple my comics budget. I'll pass and admire from afar.

    Default Titles per month

Just 2 books per month? I buy 16 DE titles and 4 other independent titles monthly.. However, a friend of mine who is a retired Air Force Chief, takes every DC, Marvel and most independents per month! To date, he has over 200,000 books in all.. UGH! It,s a good thing he has a big basement!! Anyone else a big collector?

I only collect trades because my brother used to eat my comics when he was a baby . . . . so now I have a phobia of regular comic books

Wow, I'm tremendously excited for this. Been a fan of Gullivar Jones ever since the 1970s Marvel CREATURES ON THE LOOSE series, which caused me to go out and find the paperback novel.

Creatures On the Loose #21 - Steranko cover...............................Ace Books Gulliver of Mars paperback art by Frazetta

Gullivar Jones was published in 1905, and thus preceded Burroughs' first John Carter novel of 1912. But Gullivar Jones makes his trip to Mars in the present (of 1905), whereas John Carter's story begins in the past when he's transported to Mars shortly after the Civil War. So did Carter get to Mars before Jones? Or did they both travel in time as well as space? I'm interested to find out. It would seem explanations are in order to account for the discrepancies between Edwin Arnold's depiction of Mars and Burroughs' Barsoom. Parallel worlds? Separated by eons of time? I suppose there could yet exist unexplored regions of Mars populated by races (the Hither and Thither folk) unknown to the red and green men of Barsoom...

The article mentions that both Carter and Jones are southern soldiers, but the novel describes Jones as a Navy lieutenant who makes his home in New York (although he does have a sweetheart in Carolina), from which point he makes his trip to Mars, via a magic flying Turkish rug.

I use to have a ton of comics from the 60's and 70's...Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers...almost every issue. Thousands (including all the old John Carter and Tarzan Marvel issues). I got sick of hauling them around and worrying about them every time I moved, so sold X-Men #1 and Avengers #1 on ebay, then gave the rest away. These days I mostly toss them in the recycling or give them away after I read them (not DE John Carter).

they say in it I believe they are exploring other eras of barsoom . . . . I think perhaps that Gullivar, is a time traveler!!!! Ithink his magic carpet has more magic to it than we know of

so I am going with "seperated by eons of time"

Misunderstanding I think. When I say 2 I was referring to WOM books, not my entire line of comics collected! You sound very lucky to have enough money to afford all those books, very lucky indeed. Even if I did I am not sure I would find enough time to sit and read them all.
