Default Warlord of Mars Dejah Thoris #9

    Kaor!

Just picked up Warlord of Mars Dejah Thoris #9 another good part to the story arc. I thought this installment of the story set the right pace, with a few surprises in the right spot. Let's see more of Martian technology.

Rafael's art is seems to fluctuate...good in moments (Xen Brega kneeling or when he enters the door) then acceptable (Dejah playing with Joktai) to awkward (when Dejah first questions "the speaker"). I would have thought a splash page of Dejah Thoris firing her sword would have been better than a large panel.

The portrayal of Dejah Thoris makes her a perfect match for the Warlord. She is beautiful, refined, and majestic as a princess but also a woman of action and a leader! I am glad she is not portrayed as a clone of Red Sonja.

Phondari provides a good contrast to Dejah Thoris. While beautiful too, she is arrogant and greedy, caring only for herself.

And what a great villian Xen Brega makes...he is nothing but a foul calot! I hope to see more of him! Maybe JC could meet him in Warriors of Mars?

    very good issue

    VERY VERY VERY INTERESTING THING

there is a pink worm central to barsoomian mythology, said to be the progenitor of all multi-limbed life upon barsoom (except the white apes I think)

that is from the tree of life, which is supposedly in the valley dor . . . AT THE SOUTH POLE

giant pink arctic worm . . . hmmmmm I wonder what the source of the Pink Worm myth was in barsoomian mythology

Another good issue. I really hope Xen Brega survives this story - he is too good a baddie to be killed off.

Phondari is another good character. She will, no doubt, be taught a lesson by the end of the Pirate Queen story but I hope it's not too severe. She provides a good contrast to Dejah Thoris.
