Thread: DVD help, PLease!

    Default DVD help, PLease!

Hello All, I hope everyone is well. I am new to the board and this is my first post. I was actually looking on line for some Lone Ranger DVD info and realized that I had been ignoring some info I had heard about there being a Lone Ranger comic. I was a big fan as a child and teen and then it somehow went by the wayside. I just discovered this site and thought that someone here (judging by the informative and great posts) would be able to help me with my question.

I had been looking on Amazon at the LR DVDs and the descriptions don't really help me too much. I want to start with the first Clayton Moore episodes and work my way forward. Is there a site I can check this out at or could someone get me started? I want to consider quality of DVD transfer and encompassing episode content. Where would be a good place to start? Any info would be great.

Like I said I haven't collected any LR stuff in quite some time and I am very excited to get my issue 1 & 2 in the mail (off of E-bay). and I put LR on my pull list at my comic shop. I have read some posts and the question of the comic being too "gritty" seems to be a topic of interest. I like the idea of different levels of characters. I have collected comics my whole life and I love the fact that you can have the same character in different lines of comics for different ages, i.e., Spider-man. I haven't read the new LR, so I know my point doesn't really mean much but I like the idea.

Anyway, I look forward to exploring this new site (to me). Thanks for all your great posts!

Here is a list of the 17 Lone Ranger episodes available on DVD from numerous public domain sources. The first three tell the story of the Lone Ranger's origin, and are combined into one feature (usually as 'The Legend of the Lone Ranger') on some DVDs.

1 Enter the Lone Ranger (9/15/1949)
2 The Lone Ranger Fights On (9/22/1949)
    3 The Lone Ranger's Triumph (9/29/1949)
4 Legion of Old Timers (10/6/1949)
    5 Rustler's Hideout (10/13/1949)
    6 War Horse (10/20/1949)
    7 Pete and Pedro (10/27/1949)
    8 The Renegades (11/3/1949)
    9 The Tenderfeet (11/10/1949)
    10 High Heels (11/17/1949)
    11 Six Gun Legacy (11/24/1949)
12 Return of the Convict (12/1/1949)
    13 Finders Keepers (12/8/1949)
    14 The Masked Rider (12/15/1949)
    15 Old Joe's Sister (12/22/1949)
    16 Cannonball McKay (12/29/1949)
    204 A Message from Abe (2/7/1957)

(I have this set. It has all 17 PD episodes. The quality is decent, but they are not in order. I've only ever seen one PD set that had all the episodes in the right order, but I can't find it this morning.)

The Rhino box set contains the first 19 color episodes from season 5. This makes for a total of 36 episodes available on DVD out of the 221 episode run of the series.

    183 The Wooden Rifle (9/13/1956)
184 The Sheriff of Smoke Tree (9/20/1956)
    185 The Counterfeit Mask (9/27/1956)
    186 No Handicap (10/4/1956)
187 The Cross of Santo Domingo (10/11/1956)
    188 White Hawk's Decision (10/18/1956)
189 The Return of Don Pedro O'Sullivan (10/25/1956)
    190 Quicksand (11/1/1956)
    191 Quarter Horse War (11/8/1956)
    192 The Letter Bride (11/15/1956)
193 Hot Spell in Panamint (11/22/1956)
    194 The Twisted Track (11/29/1956)
195 Decision for Chris McKeever (12/6/1956)
    196 Trouble at Tylerville (12/13/1956)
    197 Christmas Story (12/20/1956)
    198 Ghost Canyon (12/27/1956)
    199 Outlaw Masquerade (1/3/1957)
    200 The Avenger (1/10/1957)
201 The Courage of Tonto (1/17/1957)

Additionally, VCI Entertainment has released the 2 Lone Ranger feature films starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. These are available in standard (full frame) editions and special editions which include some bonus material, plus the widescreen and full frame versions of the film.

Feature 1 The Lone Ranger (1956)
Feature 2 The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold (1958 )

These films were actually 'soft-matted' widescreen, so the standard full-frame version presents more picture than the widescreen. VCI has a great deal on the standard DVDs of these films right here.

I believe this is everything "legitimately available" on DVD in the United States right now. Hope this helps you out some.

That is supposed to be all 221 TV episodes (the feature films are not included). Just be warned - that is a bootleg set and not an official release. (Of course, with no official release in sight, you gotta do what you gotta do . My fellow Three Stooges fans can testify to that as well.)

I just found out today that Classic Media is investigating. If they're not legit, I'm sure they'll quickly be pulled.

I have recently been in contact with three people who ordered the DVD set. None of them received it. They've also lost contact with the company. If you were thinking about ordering this, don't.
