I really have a hard time with that. I don't think he'd act that way. I doubt a real person would act as docile as the Clayton Moore version did, but I think this is a little extreme.
Well my mustached Ranger friend, I have a slightly different take on the fact that he's a lawman and thus immune to at least a modicom of 'losing it."

If I see from my perspective (and I do try when I come here), I would feel this young man with such an idealistic sense might well take it up a notch if only because of the cowardly attack, for a quick(relative) instant he could lash out at a friend, steal a horse, breakdown a door, then in a moment of clarity realize, he needs a good stiff Sasperilla, just the fact he took a drink tells me he ain't no saint nor stranger to opening a "pop"

And the four crimes you mention ...the word crimes is a little over the top for me. More like frustration and blind anger that really hurt no one, Tonto surely would understand Reid's need to lash out at the nearest person.

Lone Ranger you are a good man for letting me use you as my sparing partner since I came on board, I do appreciate your well thought, rational parrys to my thrusts...and your mask & mustache photo, bonus, 'cause it always makes me smile.

Anyway, we won't convert each other but I really enjoy hearing these opposite and varied viewpoints within rational discussions...it's what the world needs now!

In addition, it's usually those whose have the most rigid and inflexible principles who fall hardest and farthest when the foundations upon which those principles are set are shaken or smashed. Some clamber back toward a realisation that they must temper their ideals with an understanding that the world is not monochromatic.

Others however, somehow twist their logic into a belief that it is not they who were wrong, or abberant, but the world. They begin to believe that it is everyone and everything but them who is wrong, and who therefore deserve punishment for their supposed sins, because following this internal logic is more pleasing to their fragile ego than is change. This is where we get the zealot, the extremist, the dictator. Look to the world in which we currently live for the results of this - for the inevitable result when two groups of such people insist, demand, that we submit to polarisation between their two ugly and dehumanising ideologies. Would you truly demand the same?

    Default a good stiff Sasperilla

i'm still wondering if he ever really took that drink. he sure intended to. sure wanted to. but he already told tonto he didn't drink. (i get the impression he never had per a strict upbringing.) had he really done any swallowing, he'd've probably had a coughing fit... like we all probably did on our first drink. i still think he wanted to but couldn't get the stuff down, especially after catching a glimpse of his own [distorted in his own perception] eyes and feeling repulsed.-cindy

This is the kind of exchange that I love. I'm a journalist with 20-plus years of experience. Early in my career I would have backed away from banter like this. I spent several years writing editorials that I disagreed with. It taught me how to look at subjects from many different angles and to understand and appreciate different perspectives. It also taught me to question what I believe and value. It made me a more persuasive writer.
In this case, I have taken a defensive stance. I agree that I'm not winning anyone to "my side" but I will hold my ground. At the same time, getting the perspective of others on this forum has broadened my perspective of the book and given me a deeper appreciation for it than I would have had with only my viewpoint to go on. I hope that others get the same out of it that I do. If this forum were all a big DE lovefest, it wouldn't be worth my time to be here. I am saddened to see the two people banned, especially ComicFan. I felt he was really generating a healthy discussion, even if his methods were questionable. I'm really happy to see new passions inflamed for the Lone Ranger. I hope this wave of interest grows. This is the most fun I've had reading comics since I was a pre-teen buying up Spider-Man as fast as Marvel could spin the tales. I honestly hope we get a good, long ride with this Lone Ranger.

Nor is a DE lovefest the environment I seek to foster here. To do so would be insincere and counter-productive, and would do neither fans nor publisher good.

Banning a user is not a measure I undertake lightly. In the case of the fan banned earlier in this section of the forums, I believe the reasons were obvious. In the case of the second, he was banned following his dummy-spit and claim of self-imposed martyrdom (duly removed) in response to being warned against inappropriate behaviour on these forums. In each example, the poster concerned has been given a lenient and reasonable chance to state their case. In each example, they have, for reasons of their own, regrettably chosen to behave inappropriately despite being warned, and have thus been removed.

    Tommy,
That can't be an easy decision to come to and I commend you for doing what you felt was right.

I would be curious to hear from DE folks if the viewpoints of the fans on this forum impact what they do with the books. Do we have their ear? Do they value our opinions? I'd like to hear them sound off and let us know if we, the fans, are making a difference.

Lone Ranger....I would hope they do but unless our POV's add to the bottom line...this is not to insult or a put down of the fine folks at DE, but this is a business and bottom line is what counts. Hey after 18 years with a big company, I was hired by an ex-employee of that big company, I have been here 11 months...when I was brought on board we had free pop, free snacks, free gas cards 200$, free lunches every Friday, it was the owner's mantra that the people are the cog in the wheel but as of this writing...all that is left is the pop and if there is an improvement in the bottom line from one month to the other we get a contribution to a retirement fund of our choosing. Things are going well and it is a good place to work but bottom line dictates...the only way we get noticed here is to stop buying the comic..all I can do is continue trying to convert, my brother in law and two other friends are now buying Lone Ranger, and I'm buying all the variants.

Okay Tommy, now prove me wrong.

    Default forum influence

    Gosh, i wasn't really on the board to influence the storyline, etc., but rather to discuss and share what was ongoing and the characters i love. that was the whole purpose of the forum, IMO. i mean, if i want to influence a storyline, i'll write one myself. i'm also hoping the story isn't so influenced either by what people say (for the most part--as we discussed previously, there are a few groundrules!). but beyond that, i could live without a wiki'ed lone ranger script. {wrinkles nose}

    Default I don't care...

I don't care what we discussed or who we are or aren't influencing...

Number 4 will be in my hands in about 24 hours and that... I care about, when I've finished it I'll care to hear what everyone thinks...

I know that sounds harsh but a man gotta do what a man gotta do

On a quieter note I was lying in bed last night looking up at the sky and stars when I thought ...where's my roof?

    Badda bing badda boom..

I guess I should clarify myself. I don't think we're here to change the product, but I'm wondering what, if any, influence there is. Do the writers get a feel for what the readers want and don't want from these boards? I know as a reporter that I try to stay in tune with what my readers like and don't like. All writers, artists, etc. want feedback. This is immediate and insightful. I just want to know if it's of value to them and if they take what we say seriously.
