 The final season of Netflix’s Cobra Kai will be released in three parts with the first premiering on July 18 followed by Part 2 on November 28. The final installment is more of a mystery as the streamer is only teasing it will drop in 2025. The season picks up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley as senseis and students decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world championships of karate, according to the official description. The longtime coming documentary Frank Miller: American Genius is getting a one-night-only theatrical showing, announced the film’s distributor Picturehouse, which also unveiled the trailer for the feature.Set to screen simultaneously in Cinemark theaters nationwide Monday, June 10, the event will feature a live introduction with Miller, moderated by actress Rosario Dawson, and all ticket holders will receive an exclusive custom collectible. It will take place in Los Angeles at the Cinemark Playa Vista at 5 p.m. PT and will be livestreamed to all other theaters across the country. American Genius explores the near half-century career of Miller — the legendary comic book artist and writer behind such landmark works as The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City and 300, who wrote and drew key comics featuring Batman, Daredevil and Wolverine in stories that defined the characters for decades across several mediums. Deadline brings a first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in the coming fourth season of The Witcher as he takes over the role played by Henry Cavill in the series’ first three seasons. After bemoaning the state of the 2024 box office, AMC Theatres chief Adam Aron finally has something to roar about.Aron wrote on Wednesday that Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool & Wolverine is off to a supersized start and set a new record for first-day advance ticket sales for the country’s largest movie circuits. Tickets went on sale Monday for the Marvel Studios sequel, which officially opens in North America on July 26 following previews on the evening of July 25.Online ticketing service Fandango, which services a majority of movie circuits, also reported brisk first-day sales for Deadpool & Wolverine, saying they were the best of 2024 to date, as well as a franchise best and the best for an R-rated feature.While neither Fandango nor AMC provided dollar figures, The Hollywood Reporter is offering that first-day sales are likely around $8 million to $9 million extrapolating from a stat cited by Aron that “some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already." 05/22/24 @ 4:48 pm EST

Disney+ is set to resurrect Vision in a new series set for 2026. Paul Bettany will reprise his role as the synthezoid Avenger who appeared in three Marvel films and WandaVision. Star Trek: Picard EP Terry Matalas has been tapped to serve as showrunner on the new series. Details of the new series have not been revealed, but as previously reported by Deadline, the Vision series had been in development at Disney+ since 2022. At the time, it was reported that the series would center on the Vision (Bettany) trying to regain his memory and humanity. While the focus is on the Vision, there is reportedly the possibility for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to appear, which would make sense given how interconnected the two characters’ stories are. 05/22/24 @ 11:19 am EST

Longtime X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is beaming up to a new franchise. He is in talks to produce a new Star Trek feature for Paramount Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. If all goes well, the door would open to him taking active creative roles on the rest of the storied franchise’s film side. Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman are the main creative producers on Star Trek‘s television side. The project Kinberg would step into is already in very active development. Toby Haynes, who directed episodes of the Star Wars series Andor, is on board to direct the new feature, with Seth Grahame-Smith writing the script. The project is said to be set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed by J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times. It is said to involve the creation of the Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life. Abrams remains involved with the new project as a producer. There is no release date for the feature, but the studio has signaled that it would like a 2025 opening. |
