The art is pretty but when I see Vampirella all I can think is a rather sarcastic "oh boy, another leather wearing female who beats up on the boys. Vampirella, please go stand behind Buffy, the Black Widow, Sharon Carter, Black Cat, Black Canary, Domino and Jakita Wagner"

I want so desperately to like it because I love Vampirella but it just seems cliched, like something I've seen before. Especially with how "Hollywood" vampires are right now. (Daybreakers, Let Me In, 30 Days of Night, Twilight etc)

I really want to like it but then, I also really want it to be a continuation of its former glory, and not a revamp.

      you know

this is getting a tad old, now.

I keep hearing "I want things to be like they were" instead of "let us try the first 6 issues and have some faith".

It is sooooo easy to start dissing writer/artist and publisher but really... in the end they WANT to treat Vampirella right and make a HUGE success of her! SO have some faith!

I know they cannot please éveryone but they are bend on making a success of the character, and if that means updating her and adding something (clothes even) then so be it!!!

If you check the history of other characters (wonder woman, batman, spidey, flash, etcetera) with a long record in the comic business you see changes abundant but really... changes NEED to be coming otherwise it will be like more Donald Duck adventures... NO DEPTH and NO REAL FUN

So come on... give it 6 issues and THEN start dissing if still unsettled about the story, the art and/or the wardrobe!!

        Easy answer to that:

Those first 6 issues cost money. Money that I don't feel like wasting on something that has done nothing to tempt me so far.

I'm not going to go to a movie after seeing previews and trailers I didn't like and go "oh well, I'll give it 20 minutes and have faith"

Change can be good, when done the right way. For me personally I'd rather have evolution and originality.

I've followed the interviews, and I pounce on each new tid bit of information voraciously, I really, really want to love this and every time I am disappointed because I'm just not seeing anything that wets my appetite.

I just see that the Vampirella I knew, who had originality, has been turned into a cookie cutter same old same old.

She used to look unique. A glance and instantly people were "Oh, Vampirella!" She didn't need a necklace to give people a clue as to her identity.

She was controversial, she fought vampires before vampires were in vogue. I don't think its so odd, or even such a bad thing to want all the good things about the series back again.

I want to see her evolve and grow on the pages in front of me, from what I've seen so far, with this relaunch that isn't what I am going to get.

Ah, sorry, but I agree with Panda. The new costume makes Vampirella one of the legions of female hitters. Where is the difference to other slayers? Vampirella always was best when the writers and artists did not try to hide the trashy aspects of the character.

to each their own opinion. I love free speech

But I am going to give her a solid chance based on the comic and not based on the previews I get.

Both the publisher and the writer persuaded me with their buckets of good intentions, so that is what I will be testing over the course of the next 6 issues at least.

I just cannot imagine that a writer and a publisher say such words of adoration and devotion and then set things up to disappoint fans...

Of course I will give her more than a try. I bought every Vampirella issue I could get since I discovered her and there was lots of bad stuff. Whatever artists tried to make of her, in the end she was back in style. Note: after a bad Vampi season there always will be a good one. But most of the time the good ones went back to the roots. The same fate belongs to the red She-Devil with a sword.

I believe the writers and publishers have the absolute best of intentions, unfortunately the comic world is littered with the corpses of relaunched books where the writers had the best of intentions.

I will look forwards very much to hearing your opinion of the first six issues, if you'd be kind enough to post reviews, boomvavavoom and Red Bryan.

I've been wrong in the past, I'll be wrong in the future and there is always the potential for being pleasantly surprised.

I don't get what dynamite are trying to do. It seems as if they're a scaring off the core audience with the "costume" issue. Yet the "soft porn" covers which now seem to have no relation to the interiors will scare away any potential new readers.

They are trying to update a classic character. All characters, for good or bad, change. Look at Superman, at one point he couldn't fly, then any time he needed a power he got it, then he got scaled back to be more 'realistic'. The artist hasn't abandoned the old costume, he's just not going to use it when it doesn't make a lot of sense. From the comments I don't think it will work, maybe because fans won't let it. Closed minds probably means close wallets. At least Eric Trautmann is on line listening to what's being said and no sitting some where with his head in the sand.

Why not just pick up the first issue and see? Maybe that makes to much sense?

Hey, sorry! My mind is far from closed. But my comic book shelf is full with babes stuff. From the visual point of view Vampis costume is what makes her unique and a black leather dress is something entirely different. I already have enough comic books with leather dress women. And I have plenty of vampire slayers. I already sold them, because there is nothing special in their books. Anita Blake? Hrmph. Vampi in a new dress makes her a babe in a long row. Sorry, that I am too open minded so I did not wait for Vampirella in a black dress. Instead I bought other comic books with women in black dresses long ago, so that Vampi in a black dress is nothing new for me I need to be open-minded for. It is old news, old outfit, just a new babe in it, that has not been in this outfit before. And there was no need for her to get such a dress. Remember the nerds in Buffy season 6? They had a Vampirella statue on a desk. In a black outfit I would have asked: So, who is that? But she wore her classic outfit, so I could say: Hey, Vampirella!

Superman: Remember the zip-zap-Superman? Blue and red? Oh boy, that wasn't Superman. They changed the details more often, brought him back to realistic ways in changing his powers, but they better did not change his appearance, because it is too classic. There are very very few heroes who got a change in appearance that made sense. Spideys black costume is a classic. But, ouh, do you remember the grey Daredevil? Have a laugh. When was Batman's appearance in question? Never, I think.
A really sense-making change always came with the stories. What about New Krypton? Superman looks as ever, but the story was new and brilliant. Knightfall, AoA, WWs Conquest etc etc. No changes in costumes but brilliant story-telling. And Vampirella: Joe Jusko made a perfect relaunch in story-telling and the classic costume. I don't know, why artists sometimes don't trust in trash. Of course it is "sex sells" in the costumes of Red Sonja and Vampirella. Why trying to prove something else? Something else is another character. If you have Spidey in his tight dress, it is always Spidey. If you have Spider-Woman in a tight dress it's t&a, but we don't dare to have a t&a-comic so give her a cape? Bull! Perhaps I really want to have t&a-books so I buy Vampirella? Because of that I don't buy Anita Blake? If I want to have words I buy the novels. Or other comic books. The stores are full of comics as are my shelves. I can read "Do androids dream.." if I want to, I have it at home. A good vampire slayer story with good words and story? Buffy season 8! But sometimes I want to have t&a, I'm a gr'up, so what?

All i'm saying is have the covers reflect the interiors.... you're doing the writer a disservice if you don't

How often do covers acctually reflect what is inside. From the looks of the covers we've seen for issue #2 they re going to do two cover one of which features the classic costume.

oh please, vampirella costume is no different then all the other tons of half naked superheroes and villans. just because shes wearing a leather outfit for an arc doesn't make vampirella or the storyline any less hot.
