  • Today's Vampirella

Where is the dynamite artwork @ in Vampirella all of a sudden the artwork went from being Kik#$$ to A$$bad. Vampirella is the one Dynamite comic that got me hooked on buying Dynamite comics and if it's not worth $4 but then again I'm hooked and it's going to have to get worse b4 I quit.

"Todays Vampirella" is a variable for anybody else. Please assign a value
(I can only guess "Red Room #3" or "Vampirella #23", since to my best knowledge,
Dynamite doesn't list exact shipping dates and I sit here in Germany anywhere.
Not even to mention that I rather tolerate lousy art than lousy writing.)

The art in both Red Room & V#23 is variable. It is quite good in some panels and rushed and incomplete in others. I agree that better writing comensates a bit. Overall, we are experiencing a rare Vampirella moment where both writing and art are above the average.

Having said that I do believe the artist wasted some shots in both V22 & 23. In the opening scenes of #23, where Vampi is being escorted in by the two Scarlet Legion babes, they are both physically more imposing than Vampi. The heroine shouldn't get shown-up in her own mag, for God's sake! In panels where Vampirella should take center stage she is off in the distance and little more than a sketch. Several potential splash pages have also been wasted.

Not really complaining - constructive criticism. I've been through too many barren years with this title to look the current gift horse in the mouth!

Good writing is needed, yes. But good girl art is an absolute must for a character like Vampirella, sort of a basic given. It's the character's entire raison d'etre, despite what any apologists might argue. It requires the sort of artwork found in Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris.
DE pull list: Will Eisner's The Spirit: The Corpse Makers, ERB's The Greatest Adventure, Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit, PSP: Herokillers, KISS/Vampirella, Mighty Mouse

www.tvtropes.org, a site devoted to all cliches^W recurring themes in art. To call it "vast" is an understatement, "steals the rest of your lifetime" is more it. A must for any creative artist
(especially writer), a totally humbling experience for a know-it-all genius like me Discussions on boards can be nicely compressed by stating, say, "Oh, the latest Eric writing is so {insert appropiate TVTropes link here}".
(This works wonderfully as universal low orbit ion cannon since neither Eric nor me could write a story which won't fall under at least 10 tropes. Since tropes are universal too.)

This much said, I found nothing on show-uppance under entry "The Hero". Also entry "Humble Pie"
was rather non-applicant since Vampirella probably (haven't the issue yet) was thinking "OK, let's
go through this sh%$#, I can still maul you bozos afterwards!" See? If it's not on TVTropes, It. Does. Not. Exist. (See TVTropes entry "Punctuated for Emphasis". (See TVTropes entry "Self-Referential Humor". (See TVTropes entry "Rule of Three". (See TVTropes entry "Over Long Gag"))))
