I wasn't expecting much from this, but Corrina Bechko's story is actually pretty decent (I liked her Planet of the Apes for BOOM, too). It doesn't feel much like a Vampirella story, but then being set in the future on Mars, I don't suppose it could. It seems to fit right in with the feel of many of the earlier stand-alone ALIENS miniseries that Dark Horse has published, though nothing specific to tie it into any of them. The artwork does the job of telling the story well enough I guess, but it's pretty basic and kind of bland and ho-hum. Fair warning, Vampi doesn't wear her costume in this issue, either.
