  • What is on your monthly list these days?

    For me -

    Barb Wire
    Future Imperfect
    GI Joe ARAH
    He-Man the Eternity War
    John Carter Warlord of Mars
    Lady Death Apocalypse
    Ragnarok
    Red Sonja (mini's only)
    Secret Wars 2099
    Winter World

With Marvel on the way out, I have found myself discovering some excellent titles. My favourite ones at the moment are Ragnarok, Winter World and John Carter. Excellent material in each book. Barb Wire has a strong opening in #1, better than the 90's series.

He-Man is superb, but would like Salazar to stay as the main artist. He blew issue 7 away. When do we get to see Bart Sears on internal work for Warlord, is work on The First was amazing.

      Interesting titles on there.
Wish I could afford more, but them I am not sure there would be enough likable books out there for me to expand to a long list.

Lots and lots of collected editions. A lot of classic material from Fantagraphics (like the Disney Library), IDW's Library of American Comics, and Craig Yoe's YoeBooks. Hardcover collections from Hermes Press and PS ArtBooks. All of the Archie digest titles, and all of the Bongo Comics titles, and that's about it for floppy comics. A lot of pulp magazine reprint stuff, and some new stories from Will Murray and publishers like Moonstone and Airship 27. Still some trade paperback collections from DC and Marvel at this point (closure on a few titles), but the list is dwindling. Still a fair amount of tradeworthy collections from Dynamite, IDW, Dark Horse and Boom. More and more free digital comics as I discover them out there on the internet for the taking.

(There's also a variety of things on my "get later when I can afford them" lists, but I post those when the solicitations come out...)

Astro City is a definite for the TPB list, and Batman '66 (I prefer the HC on this one). Batman Beyond is a maybe, depending on how I like the first TPB. I read the #1 issue floppy, and it was just so-so, hard to tell. Fables: The Wolf Among Us is another maybe on the TPB list. I liked the first 4 issues I read.

Is that the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale Captain America: White, from like 5 or more years ago? That I might get in TPB.

I'm still waiting on something more deluxe for Miracleman. If they do some sort of Omnibus of "The Original Writer's" issues, I'm in. I got rid of most of my original Eclipse issues (but kept all the Eclipse TPBs and anything not reprinted in them), so make it worth my while.

When it comes to DE stuff, I think I'll be getting the rest of Nancy Collins' Vampirella run (plus Feary Tales), Linsner's Dawn/Vampirella, John Carter, The Shadow, Matt Wagner's The Spirit, Mark Waid's Justice Inc.: The Avenger, and all of the King miniseries when the trades hit. Stuff like Blackcross, Masks 2, Swords of Sorrow is a lot more iffy a TPB purchase down the road somewhere, but so far I'm not feeling a huge outpouring of acclaim for those things.

The two companies to look for great books at the moment are IDW and Dynamite I think.

                Quality.

                  DE: John Carter, Red Sonja/Conan
Marvel: Infinity Gauntlet, Secret Wars 2099
                  DC: Cyborg, Omegamen
                  IDW: Star Trek, Transformers
Valiant: Ivar, Timewalker, Unity, Book of Death
Dark Horse: Conan the Avenger, Barb Wire
Looking forward to James Bond and anything ERB related from DE, and some new Marvels come October.

There's quality in the other companies, too.
