  • Guns Of The black

Moonstone has had some reliability issues of their own, but I'm still giving this a try. Will be on shelves April 27th.

Dateline, 1938. Hitler and the Nazis have begun their plans to conquer the world. In the United States, the crimefighter known as the Black Bat encounters German spies exhibiting strange, unworldly powers.

Have aliens infiltrated the Third Reich and is the threat to mankind greater than imagined? Hurriedly, the Bat assembles a team of specialists to help him confront this unknown foe - Airboy, Domino Lady, Moon Man, Golden Amazon, and more! They will become known as the Guns of the Black Bat!

Someone has poisoned Manhattan’s water supply and is turning both humans and animals in to de-evolved monsters and beasts.

Only the Black Bat and his assembled team - Phantom Detective, Domino Lady, I.V. Frost and Nighthawk - can hope to stem the nightmare tide and save their city before it is too late.

Sure enough, sounds like it never came out. New date TBD. The book is promoted bi-monthly anyway so I guess that gives themselves a little time to catch up.

In the meantime, here's the solicitation for #3.

      Writer: Ron Fortier
      Art: Silvestre Szilagyi
      Cover: Michael Stribling
      32pgs, grayscale, $3.50
      UPC: 685239899108

Domino Lady and the Phantom Detective travel to the Congo to find a life-saving plant as the Black Bat and the rest of his team continue to battle prehistoric humans and animals on the streets of Manhattan.

Perhaps. Apparently, it's only those three issues, then we move on to a Black Bat/Domino Lady book, which I believe is four issues. And knowing Moonstone, will either be cancelled after three, or will take three years to be released. Already they've modified the cover to display a different artist receiving credit and another writer in addition to Fortier. Not sure what that's all about.

I got a preview of the first issue of the DL/BB book and it seems like a blast. Hope they can follow through. Moonstone's first attempt at the Black Bat was brutal.

And this is scheduled for next month, I believe.

Looks like Previewsworld now has issue #1 of GotBB shipping on 7/20/2016?

Thanks for the heads up, I had not noticed that.

Moonstone said yesterday on Twitter that issue one is "available now". Not on their website, Amazon or comixology, min you, but apparently it's available somewhere.

Saw it at my LCBS. Looked interesting, but I passed between preferring a TPB and a questionable release schedule it was a little to ify.

A trade paperback is more questionable for Moonstone than the floppy releases. This is a 3-issue series, so it'll be a good long time until they figure out some supplemental material to make a collected edition more substantial and worthwhile. With Moonstone, that usually happens (IF it happens, and it's by no means certain) as a limited hardcover release, typically filled out with a one-shot, or a prose story or two, or perhaps an original comic short story exclusive to the collection. Trade paperbacks are a more distant and hazy possibility, for anyone with the patience to wait a year or three. The less people who buy the original comics, the less likely they'll be collected.

If you like Black Bat team-up stories, you should get the prose anthology THE BLACK BAT RETURNS, that has nine stories, five of which feature the Black Bat co-starring with other pulp characters (Doctor Satan, Golden Amazon, Green Lama, Purple Scar, and Domino Lady).

I'm seldom anywhere near a comic store anymore and the guy I know who works in one and once told me he can get me "anything" can't get this apparently, so I'll buy the digital version when it's available and the trade later if it's available.

I considered ordering from Moonstone directly but shipping to Canada came to $14 so...no.

Indeed. Suffered from some editing errors, as Moonstone books seem to on occasion, but enjoyed it a great deal nonetheless.

2nd issue said to be released on Sept 7th (according to Pulp Coming Attractions).

Although Previews World doesn't have it out until December.

Issues one through three now available on the Moonstone website.

                              http://moonstonebooks.com/shop/category.aspx?catid=36

Ordered all three, spent an extra buck on the #1 variant. Hope I get them fairly quickly. Been a long wait.

On to Black Bat / Domino Lady, I guess. I wouldn't expect that until March or so though. Dang. If so, it'll have been three years since Ron Fortier first talked about it on the Airship27 blog.
