Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce that classic television's incarnation of The Green Hornet is set to make his return with an unexpected new partner in the pulp character's latest cross-over miniseries, The Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit, featuring revered comic writer/artist Will Eisner's famous two-fisted crimefighter. Written by Fred Van Lente (Archer & Armstrong, Cowboys and Aliens), with art by Bob Q (Kings Quest),The Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #1 arrives in stores this July!
The Green Hornet is back and on the case! With his aide Kato and their rolling arsenal, The Black Beauty, by his side, The Green Hornet is ready to face the toughest of challenges! On police records a wanted criminal, The Green Hornet is secretly Britt Reid, owner/publisher of The Daily Sentinel. Reid and Kato have traveled to Central City to participate in the futuristic World's Fair, and to get the skinny on the new and potentially dangerous "Newspaper of Tomorrow", a device capable of predicting headlines before events happen.

Writer Fred Van Lente says, "I'm very excited to link these two iconic characters. The Spirit has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid, and the opportunity to pair Will Eisner's legendary creation with a character that has an actual year in its name allowed me to age The Spirit cast fourteen years forward. In our world, the Spirit hasn't been seen since 1952 (the year the strip ended) but suddenly this new guy has appeared in the mask and hat -- one who will look pretty familiar to longtime fans. Who is this guy, and why has he returned? This is the mystery Green Hornet and Kato must solve."
Fred Van Lente is the #1 New York Times bestselling, award-winning writer of comics like Dynamite's The Mocking Dead and Magnus: Robot Fighter, Archer & Armstrong (Harvey Award nominee, Best Series), Action Philosophers! (American Library Association Best Graphic Novel for Teens), and Cowboys & Aliens (with Andrew Foley), the basis for the feature film.

Artist Bob Q says, "I'm incredibly excited to be working with Fred Van Lente who has written a script that's fun all the way through. Artistically, my plan is to capture that spirit as best I can with a series of ham-handed pencil and brush strokes. What I'm really striving for, though, is to shake up masked-vigilante fashion. It's time to trade in spandex onesies, capes, and pouched belts and get back to some nicely tailored suits and fedoras. If you're going to fight crime, do it with some class."
"The Green Hornet and Will Eisner's The Spirit have been incredibly successful properties for us, thanks to these characters' dedicated and eternal fan base," says Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. "We're thrilled that after many decades in print, the characters are still able to resonate with fans - both old and new - across the globe, and now courtesy of a titanic team-up of their trademark trench coats!"
The debut issue of The Green Hornet '66 Meets the Spirit features a wide selection of cover variants, providing fans and retailers with the freedom of choice! The cover artwork features the talents of the award-winning husband and wife team, Mike and Laura Allred (Batman '66, X-Force, iZombie), Ty Templeton (Batman 66, The Simpsons) and Javier Pulido (The Amazing Spiderman, Robin: Year One), respectively. Limited variant editions in "Black & White" and "Virgin Art" formats are also available as retailer incentives for comic shops that support the launch issue by achieving stocking thresholds.

The Green Hornet '66 Meets the Spirit #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' May 2017 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in July. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. The Green Hornet '66 Meets the Spirit #1 will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

No good deed goes unpunished, and the She-Devil With a Sword will learn that in a brand new series by prolific writer Luke Lieberman in Red Sonja: Death and the Devil this September!

Readers know these sword and sorcery heroes like Red Sonja for their many conquests and enemies felled through their fables. Yet sometimes killing some foe and riding off into the sunset leaves a world of consequences behind. Sometimes, the balance of kingdoms could be at play. Across legendary, this reality is ignored, and it's past time for Sonja to face the consequences of her blood path.

Sonja has dealt death so many times, and the spilled blood is coming back to haunt her, as chronicled by veteran scribe Luke Lieberman (Birth of the She-Devil, The Price of Blood). He's joined by rising star artist Alberto Locatelli, who wowed readers with his work in Vampirella: Dead Flowers.

After she killed the Sultan of Turan in Birth of a She Devil, the kingdom dissolved into a bloody chaos of serpent cults and rival warlords vying to claim the throne. Sonja knows, the bloodshed and collapse into anarchy is her fault, so she returns to find the Sultan's true heir. At least, that is the plan...

"For some reason we just take it as a given that the hero kills the villain and then it’s happily ever after. That’s not how the world works," said writer Luke Lieberman. "There are always unintended consequences to battles and wars, personal or global. They are never clean or wrapped up with a bow, and if you take a life, you are responsible for whatever flows out of that action."

Death and the Devil is fronted by an all-star roster of cover artists including Joseph Michael Linsner, Celina, Moritat, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon.

Fans won't want to miss this rousing tale of adventure that tallies the costs exacted by the path of the word, for a unique perspective on the genre.

RED SONJA: DEATH AND THE DEVIL #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ July 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in September 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!

Is a Live-Action Atlantis Movie Releasing Soon? New Speculation Explained

Viral images of a live-action version of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire have fans questioning whether a remake is coming. The 2001 animated film followed Milo Thatch, a bookish cartographer voiced by Michael J. Fox, who leads a group of mercenaries to the lost city of Atlantis. Unfortunately, the images, including pictures of Millie Bobby Brown as Kida, are fake and only AI depictions of what a remake of the animated film could look like. In addition, a live-action Atlantis: The Lost Empire is not among Disney's upcoming remakes, which include Snow White, Moana, and Lilo & Stitch. (via The Direct)

Watchmen and Crisis On Infinite Earths Animated Movies Announced

The newest adaptation of DC's Watchmen has been shrouded in mystery. It reportedly splits the events of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' DC maxiseries of the same name into a two-movie animated saga — and now we have a new detail of exactly what that will entail. According to a new listing from the MPAA's Film Ratings board, Watchmen: Chapter I is "Rated R for violent content and some graphic nudity." While a plot synopsis has not officially been given by Warner Bros. Animation, it has been safe to assume that the Watchmen animated movie will adhere to the plot of Moore and Gibbons' source material. In it, a group of retired superheroes in an alternate 1985 America must join forces again, after one of their own is murdered. (via ComicBook.com)

While the seemingly never-ending saga over Paramount‘s future ownership may be still rumbling on, the studio didn’t hold back when it came to putting on a grand spectacle at the 2024 CineEurope trade show. “Gladiator 2” was — unsurprisingly — the main event of Paramount’s slate presentation in Barcelona. Ridley Scott’s return to Ancient Rome after almost 25 years was given top billing with a giant cardboard coliseum erected around the main auditorium, flanked by stern-faced Roman legionnaires. Audiences at CinemaCon in the U.S. may have gotten the first look at the hotly-anticipated sequel — starring a bulked-out Paul Mescal in the lead role — but across the Atlantic, CineEurope attendees were treated to some epic and never-before-seen extended footage featuring Mescal and co-star Pedro Pascal, alongside an as-yet-unreleased trailer. Denzel Washington, Connie Nielson and Joseph Quinn also star in the film, due out Nov. 15. (via Variety)

Vault Comics is thrilled to announce GOOBERS, a darkly comedic horror series written by star scribe Cody Ziglar (Spider-Punk, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Futurama), drawn by Ryan Lee (Rick and Morty), colored by Kurt Michael Russell (Money Shot, The Nasty), lettered by Andworld, and designed by Adam Cahoon. A body-snatching splatter-fest of horror and humor, GOOBERS is equal parts Night of the Creeps, Shaun of the Dead, and Attack the Block. The story centers around Clayton Lowe as he heads back to his small Southern hometown. His new friends from grad school are about to meet his old friends from high school and discover that something may have finally changed in the town where nothing ever changes: Pine Cove is ground zero for an infestation of body-snatching alien-bugs. And now, it’s time to bury the past. “I grew up watching 80s and 90s b-horror films,” said Ziglar. “I also grew up in a small country town. Goobers is a love letter to both! I love being able to smash some of my favorite genres, movies, and comics together with my love of North Carolina. I also loved being able to voice the frustration of growing up in a small town and being self-conscious about what they thought of me and how I lived my life. Back in 2021 during peak covid, I moved back home for 6 months to spend time with my parents and that’s where Goobers was truly born. “I kept wondering what made certain towns feel the same, even if there are small changes, and landed on the obvious answer: alien worms must invade and body-snatch folks," continued Ziglar. "Goobers, in many ways, in just my comedic look on processing those emotions while also paying homage to some of my favorite films like Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Creeps, Get Out, and Revenge of the living Dead." "Upon my first pass of Cody’s script for Goobers, I recognized our kindred creative sensibilities and knew this would be riot to work on," added Lee. "This script was hilarious and heartfelt, but hardcore when it gets in the guts of the terror and action. Goobers squirmed its spiked larval body into that monster infatuation I've treasured since childhood. I was blessed to grow up in a golden era of mischievous little freaks: Gremlins, Ghoulies. Critters, Munchies. Trolls, Madballs. Garbage Pail Kids. Comics. Cracked Monster Parties. The monster books of Mercer Mayer. These were my muses. There's a magic in those freaks that buried their claws into my brain and jolted my imagination to draw and create my own beastlies. Enter "Goobers": the continuation of an obsession." GOOBERS issue #1 will hit store shelves in September, 2024. The series will feature an incredible lineup of variant covers from a fan-favorite artists like Spider-Punk’s Justin Mason, and The Nasty’s Adam Cahoon.
