 Louis Leterrier, director of Fast X and several Transporter action movies, has been tapped to direct and produce the sci-fi horror film 11817, based on a script by Matthew Robinson. The genre pic produced by Leterrier’s Carrousel Studios, Rocket Science, Thank You Studios, Chernin Entertainment and 3 Arts Entertainment is now casting. Rocket Science will fully finance, handle foreign sales and introduce the film in Cannes, while CAA Media Finance will handle a North American sale. In 11817, inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life-or-death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who – or what – is keeping them trapped. Deadline brings a first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in the coming fourth season of The Witcher as he takes over the role played by Henry Cavill in the series’ first three seasons. See an image of the two side-by-side as the character above, and first-look footage below. Production on Season 4 is currently underway in the UK. As previously announced, Season 4 is being shot back-to-back with a fifth and final season, which will complete the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. Hemsworth will play Geralt in the final two seasons. After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out Season 3, Season 4 follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they may have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again. After bemoaning the state of the 2024 box office, AMC Theatres chief Adam Aron finally has something to roar about.Aron wrote on Wednesday that Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool & Wolverine is off to a supersized start and set a new record for first-day advance ticket sales for the country’s largest movie circuits. Tickets went on sale Monday for the Marvel Studios sequel, which officially opens in North America on July 26 following previews on the evening of July 25.Online ticketing service Fandango, which services a majority of movie circuits, also reported brisk first-day sales for Deadpool & Wolverine, saying they were the best of 2024 to date, as well as a franchise best and the best for an R-rated feature.While neither Fandango nor AMC provided dollar figures, The Hollywood Reporter is offering that first-day sales are likely around $8 million to $9 million extrapolating from a stat cited by Aron that “some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already." 05/22/24 @ 4:48 pm EST

Disney+ is set to resurrect Vision in a new series set for 2026. Paul Bettany will reprise his role as the synthezoid Avenger who appeared in three Marvel films and WandaVision. Star Trek: Picard EP Terry Matalas has been tapped to serve as showrunner on the new series. Details of the new series have not been revealed, but as previously reported by Deadline, the Vision series had been in development at Disney+ since 2022. At the time, it was reported that the series would center on the Vision (Bettany) trying to regain his memory and humanity. While the focus is on the Vision, there is reportedly the possibility for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to appear, which would make sense given how interconnected the two characters’ stories are. 05/22/24 @ 11:19 am EST

Longtime X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is beaming up to a new franchise. He is in talks to produce a new Star Trek feature for Paramount Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. If all goes well, the door would open to him taking active creative roles on the rest of the storied franchise’s film side. Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman are the main creative producers on Star Trek‘s television side. The project Kinberg would step into is already in very active development. Toby Haynes, who directed episodes of the Star Wars series Andor, is on board to direct the new feature, with Seth Grahame-Smith writing the script. The project is said to be set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed by J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times. It is said to involve the creation of the Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life. Abrams remains involved with the new project as a producer. In a competitive situation, A24 has acquired the U.S. rights to Michael Sarnoski’s The Death of Robin Hood which will star Academy Award-nominee Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer from Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company. The film follows the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, an aging Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation. Production on the film is set to begin in February 2025. A24 is planning a theatrical release. Ozark‘s Felix Solia has signed on to star opposite Jacob Moran, Madeleine McGraw and Violet McGraw in The Necklace, a horror film from director Juan Pablo Arias Munoz that heads into production in Atlanta in late May. Written by John Ducey, The Necklace watches as the Davis family navigates through tough times in 1960. Laura Davis has separated from her husband Frank due to his unpredictable temper, fueled by alcohol. As Laura returns to work as a nurse, her daughters, 11-year-old Ellen (Violet McGraw) and 16-year-old Judy (Madeleine McGraw), grapple with the changes in their family dynamics. The plot thickens when Frank attempts to win Laura back with a beautiful antique necklace, which turns out to be a conduit for the tormented soul of an evil boy from long ago, putting Laura and her daughters in grave danger.
