Fans have seen them attack fin-headed cops, iconic rock bands, and fellow denizens of the red planet, but now Dynamite presents Mars Attacks Red Sonja!

John Layman (Chew, Detective Comics) and artist Fran Strukan (The Shape of Elvira) will chronicle the untold tale of when the dastardly Martians invaded Hyrkania during the Hyborian Age. Joined by colorist Valentina Briški and letterer maestro Taylor Esposito, the team will unravel this forgotten piece of history. How do the steel and savagery of Red Sonja stand up against the advanced weaponry and science of the big-brained baddies? Only one way to find out, by reading the ACK-ing book!

"This is a book I actively pushed Dynamite to do, and I bugged them and bugged them until they finally approved it because I wouldn’t go away," said John Layman. "I’m a HUGE fan of both properties, and the idea of mixing violent barbarian sword & sorcery with ultra-violent over-the-top retro sci-fi is simply irresistible to me."

Fran Strukan added, "It’s really amazing the amount of luck a person can have. Growing up with certain characters and then one day - WHAM! You’re doing a crossover between some of the most beloved things from your childhood. All of that, and with a veteran writer (and fellow decapitation lover) John at the helm, it’s impossible to express the amount of excitement I have for this book."

Layman returns to both franchises here following a celebrated run elsewhere on the Martian meanies and the fondly remembered early Dynamite crossover Red Sonja/Claw. He brings those connections (be on the lookout for Easter eggs!) and over 25 years of experience writing, editing, and more in comics. From his earliest days editing some of the innovative bestsellers at Wildstorm to his smash hit, multiple Eisner-winning creator-owned Chew. The explosive first issue features a crop of covers by the coolest creators. A man very well-versed in depicting the She-Devil With a Sword is Lucio Parrillo, who highlights the menace of the Martians. Fan-favorite Dustin Nguyen (Batman, Descender) uses plenty of red and his signature style, and we're not just referring to Sonja's hair. Arthur Suydam evokes the classic era of science fiction that birthed the Mars Attacks franchise originally. Coming a long way from having fan art featured in an issue of Red Sonja (Vol 4 #7), is Luca Strati showing off a victorious Sonja. The legendary Barry Kitson swings through with a wraparound bursting with dynamism. And last but certainly not least is an incentive variant by Alan Quah homaging the classic trading cards.

MARS ATTACKS RED SONJA #1 is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ June 2019 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in August 2020. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the issue with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!

Simu Liu as Shang-Chi with the Avengers team standing behind him

Several MCU movies have already started to come into view for a potential Phase 7 release.

As of this writing, the last officially dated MCU movie with a title on the Marvel Studios slate is Avengers: Secret Wars (coming May 7, 2027); however, that does not mean the franchise will come to an end with the upcoming Multiversal mega-blockbuster.

With several projects floating in the ether at Marvel Studios, a few names have started to bubble to the surface as potential Phase 7 titles, coming after Secret Wars' 2027 release date.

The best bets for four films that will occupy what will become Phase 7 are: The long-awaited BLADE movie; BLACK PANTHER 3; Marvel Studios' first full-scale X-MEN movie; and the anticipated SHANG-CHI 2. (via The Direct)

Oni Press is proud to unveil the first look inside THE GODDAMN TRAGEDY #1 – a vicious and vengeful account of one of the Old West’s darkest episodes from its last and only survivor! From writer Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine, Green Arrow) and fast-rising artoShawn Kuruneru (Fishflies, Cave Grave), THE GODDAMN TRAGEDY #1 is a gripping and entirely self-contained, fully painted, 48-page graphic novella coming to comic shops everywhere on May 28th, 2025!

Ellen Janson is here to set the record straight about the highly publicized, oft-sensationalized journey her family undertook in 1846. Ellen sets out with her mother, Irena, and her father, Leo, on the treacherous road west in search of a better life. But when her father chooses to split off from the party, taking an untested shortcut through the mountains, can their small family survive the elements, the wildlife—and each other? Or will their journey become nothing more than another goddamn tragedy?

“I love the Western environment,” Kuruneru said. “I’m drawn to the simplicity of the genre. I like starting with something simple, and then making it complex through character development and atmosphere. There’s more in the Western genre that I want to explore.”

“I think it’s a fascinating time period that is ripe for dramatic storytelling,” Condon added. “It’s people at odds with their own world. Nothing is safe. It makes for a great tale!”

This doomed and disorienting vision of one family’s twisted descent into madness features covers from interior artist Shawn Kuruneru, as well as illustrators Tula Lotay (Somna), Jacob Phillips (That Texas Blood), Jenna Cha (The Sickness) and Oliver Dominguez (Out of Alcatraz). Pray for mercy when THE GODDAMN TRAGEDY #1 comes down from the mountaintops on May 28th!

Fan-favorite creators Patrick Kindlon (Frontiersman), Marco Ferrari (Scarlett), and artist Maurizio Rosenzweig (Dylan Dog) will bring readers nonstop action in the upcoming Gehenna: Naked Aggression. This four-issue miniseries first appeared serialized in black and white in the Image! anthology and will be brought to life this June—with full color and additional new material—from Image Comics.

There’s a contract out on Gehenna. But she’s managed to stay alive long enough that the contract has been resold several times as consolidated debt between criminal organizations. Now she intends to put a stop to the chain of custody on that contract. With a bullet. Readers won't want to miss this edge-of-seat storytelling inspired by Gun Honey and Elektra: Assassin.

"The goal from page one was to create a ride," said Kindlon. "Link set-pieces into each other until we had a story that was all GO. And we did it. The most fun you'll have with a comic book all year."

Ferrari added: "The Frontiersman Universe is back, bigger and bolder than ever with new characters, old friends and an adrenaline-fueled story that will keep you turning pages at breakneck speed."

"For me, Gehenna is my Jackie Brown," said Rosenzweig.

Gehenna: Naked Aggression #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 11:

Even though his time as Aquaman is done, Jason Momoa is still in the DC family and is currently filming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow over in England opposite of Milly Alcock. Momoa appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show earlier this week to promote his upcoming Minecraft movie where he stars with Jack Black. And While he didn’t say much other than confirming that he will be Lobo, during another interview with CinemaBlend where he was accompanied by Black, Momoa almost showed the interviewer an image of him in the Lobo make-up until his publicist intervened. Also Black was trying to angle for a cameo in the film. Well, head of DC Studios James Gunn saw the interview and posted “I just want to profoundly thank Jason Momoa’s publicist… and Jack Black, anytime.” Gunn may need to borrow some of Kevin Feige’s snipers from Marvel.    Momoa

The new Netflix series, The Residence, is a clever and quirky murder mystery that takes place in the White House during an important state dinner. The show, created by Paul William Davies, straddles the line between humor and who-dunnit with the same efficiency as Only Murders in the Building with an almost equally star-studded cast. But one of the biggest names in the show isn’t actually in the show. The murder of the chief usher, played by Giancarlo Esposito, takes place at an important dinner trying to repair a strained relationship between the US and Australia and like with many real state dinners, luminaries from the visiting country attend, in this cause Kylie Minogue and Hugh Jackman. And while Minogue is seen often, either singing or trying to get into the Lincoln bedroom, Jackman is always shown from behind or the side… because Jackman is not part of the cast. He was written into the story, with a lot of appearances, but when it came time to ask him, the actor was just too busy. Davies said that Jackman sent a really nice and apologetic note about not being able to do the series. So, they improvised, cast two actors, Ben Bigler and Justin Ellis Johnson, to stand in for Jackman and just went for it. Which just added to the show’s quirkiness. If the show gets a second season, they should definitely carry this bit over. All eight episodes of The Residence are available now on Netflix.  The Residence

The official Daredevil Instagram account added a very interesting post. The idea behind the post is to show a scene from Daredevil: Born Again matched up to pages from the comics that they were pulled from. For example, Daredevil #181 (1981) where Daredevil let Bullseye fall from a building… compared to the same scene in episode one. Or Daredevil #595 (2015) when Fisk wins the election for Mayor of New York. And even two scenes from Daredevil #39 (2003) where Matt is defending Hector Ayala aka the White Tiger. But the really interesting choice here is that they chose Daredevil #82 (2006) and linked it to the death of Foggy Nelson… but in the comic, it was the “apparent death” of Foggy as it is revealed five issues later that he is still alive. I’m sure this won’t add to the growing speculation that Foggy isn’t really dead.Foggy

There has been one person missing from all of the trailers and promotional material we’ve seen for Thunderbolts*. Originally Ayo Edebiri from The Bear was cast in the film to play Val’s assistant, named Erin. Then Edebiri had to leave the project, and she was replaced by Geraldine Viswanathan. While the role is believed to be small, Viswanathan name is appearing on the theater standees alongside some of the higher profile characters. But again, no sign of the character in any trailer until Empire Magazine released this new image from the film showing Viswanathan standing next to Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine along with a few masked soldiers. There is, of course, on-line speculation that Erin will turn out to be a more prominent character from the comics… but in a movie with this many costumed characters, I wouldn’t bet on it.Thunderbolts

According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios is looking at two names familiar with steering big franchises to head up the James Bond films when the handover from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson is finalized. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are said to be the pair that Amazon wants running the OO7 franchise and that makes a lot of sense. Pascal oversaw four of the Daniel Craig lead films from Casino Royale to Skyfall while she was with Sony as well as the Spider-Man franchise which still produces even after leaving the studio. And Heyman helmed a little series called Harry Potter, which is now being turned into an HBO series. It’s also said that the studio wants to do another OO7 film before doing any spinoff series. I wonder what the odds of Andrew Garfield or Daniel Radcliffe as the next Bond are?Bond

Earlier this week in ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #2, Emperor Doom publicly humbled the Fantastic Four, even going so far as to restore the Thing to his human form! Despite being embraced by the world at large, Earth’s heroes will stop at nothing to topple Doom’s reign, for as his archenemies lick their wounds, the Avengers plot their next strike! Today, get a sneak peek at the explosive battle to come with an advance preview of ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #3, on sale next month.

More than a mere crossover event, ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM represents an entire status quo shift that will impact Marvel Comics storytelling for the foreseeable future, specifically in newly-launched tie-in limited series as well as tie-in issues of current ongoing series. The era is anchored by Ryan North and R.B. Silva’s core nine-issue series where readers will witness the greatest developments of Doom’s glorious rule as well as his triumphs over all who dare challenge it!

It's not just the heroes who dislike having Doom in charge. The new ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #3 preview reveals that the Avengers have assembled some of Earth’s deadliest villains to fight alongside them: super geniuses DOCTOR OCTOPUS and M.O.D.O.K., masters of the dark arts BARON MORDO and GOBLIN QUEEN, and brilliant tricksters ARCADE and MYSTERIO! It’s a mighty coalition that even Doom can’t brush off, and as he defends himself from their brazen attack, Scarlet Witch leads a magical investigation to discover how Doom really rose to power, only to face a devastating truth!

Speaking about the upcoming issue, North said, "It was a ton of fun to write, and even more fun to see drawn when R.B. Silva was done with it. And it doesn't go the way you might think, and actually leads to an even BIGGER fight in the next issue! It's got some Doom moments I'm super proud of. How could it not, when you've got characters like M.O.D.O.K. and Doctor Octopus trying to take down Doom for their own reasons?"
