Nancy Collins, writer of the Vampirella Annual 2015, talks with writer Marguerite Bennett about Swords of Sorrow: Red Sonja/Jungle Girl #3, both on sale now. Cover by Jay Anacleto NANCY COLLINS: Were you familiar with Red Sonja and Jungle Girl before you took on the writing chores for this tie-in mini-series?MARGUERITE BENNETT: I had been a HUGE fan of Gail Simone’s Red Sonja, but had not yet had the pleasure of Jana the Jungle Girl. NC: Can you get us up to speed as to what is at stake in the final issue? Why are Sonja and Jungle Girl on a quest together and why are they being pursued by male versions of themselves?MB: Yes! Mistress Hel seeks to conquer the island and have a frozen hellscape domain of her own. She has made a deal with a sinister Prince, who has provided his lackeys, shape-shifting Shard Men, to do so. As the Shard Men pursue Sonja and Jana, they take on their forms, preparing to replace them. Sonja and Jana hasten to the village of their companion, Bel’lok, to prevent Mistress Hel from taking an artifact that would give her control of the island. NC: Red Sonja seems to have taken a big sister/mentor role with Jungle Girl. Was this your idea?MB: It didn’t begin as intentional, but in the first draft of issue #1, they fell in naturally to that rhythm. Sonja is so worldly, so decorated, while Jana is sheltered on her one little island. Jana might feel intimidated by such a person, but she’s naturally frank and affectionate, and Sonja likes being in charge as much as Jana likes learning. NC: Did you have any contact with your artist, Mirka Andolfo?MB: Yes! Mirka is an absolute delight. I love her dearly and am delighted to also work with her on DC’S Bombshells series, about all of the DC Comics heroines in an alternate history WWII. Her style is quick and witty — she has a lovely sense of comedic timing and exaggerated charm. NC: Now that you’ve wrapped up your part of the Swords of Sorrow story arc, what do you have planned next?MB: Haha, I’m actually on too many books for my own good. At DC, I’m on Bombshells; at Marvel, I’m wrapping up A-Force, 1602: Witch Hunter Angela, and about to transition into Angela: Queen of Hel. I do have another forthcoming project at Dynamite which I am very excited to reveal. And through AfterShock, I have InSeXts, my first creator-owned ongoing, about a pair of Victorian lovers, Lady and Mariah, who go on a vengeful killing spree after discovering a form of shapeshifting body horror. And more announcements to come! Thank you much! For more on Swords of Sorrow: Red Sonja / Jungle Girl #3, click here.

Several MCU movies have already started to come into view for a potential Phase 7 release. As of this writing, the last officially dated MCU movie with a title on the Marvel Studios slate is Avengers: Secret Wars (coming May 7, 2027); however, that does not mean the franchise will come to an end with the upcoming Multiversal mega-blockbuster. With several projects floating in the ether at Marvel Studios, a few names have started to bubble to the surface as potential Phase 7 titles, coming after Secret Wars' 2027 release date. The best bets for four films that will occupy what will become Phase 7 are: The long-awaited BLADE movie; BLACK PANTHER 3; Marvel Studios' first full-scale X-MEN movie; and the anticipated SHANG-CHI 2. Oni Press is proud to unveil the first look inside THE GODDAMN TRAGEDY #1 – a vicious and vengeful account of one of the Old West’s darkest episodes from its last and only survivor! From writer Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine, Green Arrow) and fast-rising artoShawn Kuruneru (Fishflies, Cave Grave), THE GODDAMN TRAGEDY #1 is a gripping and entirely self-contained, fully painted, 48-page graphic novella coming to comic shops everywhere on May 28th, 2025! Ellen Janson is here to set the record straight about the highly publicized, oft-sensationalized journey her family undertook in 1846. Ellen sets out with her mother, Irena, and her father, Leo, on the treacherous road west in search of a better life. But when her father chooses to split off from the party, taking an untested shortcut through the mountains, can their small family survive the elements, the wildlife—and each other? Or will their journey become nothing more than another goddamn tragedy? “I love the Western environment,” Kuruneru said. “I’m drawn to the simplicity of the genre. I like starting with something simple, and then making it complex through character development and atmosphere. There’s more in the Western genre that I want to explore.” “I think it’s a fascinating time period that is ripe for dramatic storytelling,” Condon added. “It’s people at odds with their own world. Nothing is safe. It makes for a great tale!” This doomed and disorienting vision of one family’s twisted descent into madness features covers from interior artist Shawn Kuruneru, as well as illustrators Tula Lotay (Somna), Jacob Phillips (That Texas Blood), Jenna Cha (The Sickness) and Oliver Dominguez (Out of Alcatraz). Pray for mercy when THE GODDAMN TRAGEDY #1 comes down from the mountaintops on May 28th! Fan-favorite creators Patrick Kindlon (Frontiersman), Marco Ferrari (Scarlett), and artist Maurizio Rosenzweig (Dylan Dog) will bring readers nonstop action in the upcoming Gehenna: Naked Aggression. This four-issue miniseries first appeared serialized in black and white in the Image! anthology and will be brought to life this June—with full color and additional new material—from Image Comics.
There’s a contract out on Gehenna. But she’s managed to stay alive long enough that the contract has been resold several times as consolidated debt between criminal organizations. Now she intends to put a stop to the chain of custody on that contract. With a bullet. Readers won't want to miss this edge-of-seat storytelling inspired by Gun Honey and Elektra: Assassin.
"The goal from page one was to create a ride," said Kindlon. "Link set-pieces into each other until we had a story that was all GO. And we did it. The most fun you'll have with a comic book all year."
Ferrari added: "The Frontiersman Universe is back, bigger and bolder than ever with new characters, old friends and an adrenaline-fueled story that will keep you turning pages at breakneck speed."
"For me, Gehenna is my Jackie Brown," said Rosenzweig.
Gehenna: Naked Aggression #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 11: Cover A by Rosenzweig - Lunar Code 0425IM289 Cover B by Anand Ramcheron - Lunar Code 0425IM290 Cover C by Atsuji Yamamoto - Lunar Code 0425IM291 Cover D by Maria Llovet (polybagged) - Lunar Code 0425IM292 Cover E (1:25) by Matteo Scalera - Lunar Code 0425IM293 Gehenna: Naked Aggression will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play. Even though his time as Aquaman is done, Jason Momoa is still in the DC family and is currently filming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow over in England opposite of Milly Alcock. Momoa appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show earlier this week to promote his upcoming Minecraft movie where he stars with Jack Black. And While he didn’t say much other than confirming that he will be Lobo, during another interview with CinemaBlend where he was accompanied by Black, Momoa almost showed the interviewer an image of him in the Lobo make-up until his publicist intervened. Also Black was trying to angle for a cameo in the film. Well, head of DC Studios James Gunn saw the interview and posted “I just want to profoundly thank Jason Momoa’s publicist… and Jack Black, anytime.” Gunn may need to borrow some of Kevin Feige’s snipers from Marvel.

The new Netflix series, The Residence, is a clever and quirky murder mystery that takes place in the White House during an important state dinner. The show, created by Paul William Davies, straddles the line between humor and who-dunnit with the same efficiency as Only Murders in the Building with an almost equally star-studded cast. But one of the biggest names in the show isn’t actually in the show. The murder of the chief usher, played by Giancarlo Esposito, takes place at an important dinner trying to repair a strained relationship between the US and Australia and like with many real state dinners, luminaries from the visiting country attend, in this cause Kylie Minogue and Hugh Jackman. And while Minogue is seen often, either singing or trying to get into the Lincoln bedroom, Jackman is always shown from behind or the side… because Jackman is not part of the cast. He was written into the story, with a lot of appearances, but when it came time to ask him, the actor was just too busy. Davies said that Jackman sent a really nice and apologetic note about not being able to do the series. So, they improvised, cast two actors, Ben Bigler and Justin Ellis Johnson, to stand in for Jackman and just went for it. Which just added to the show’s quirkiness. If the show gets a second season, they should definitely carry this bit over. All eight episodes of The Residence are available now on Netflix.

The official Daredevil Instagram account added a very interesting post. The idea behind the post is to show a scene from Daredevil: Born Again matched up to pages from the comics that they were pulled from. For example, Daredevil #181 (1981) where Daredevil let Bullseye fall from a building… compared to the same scene in episode one. Or Daredevil #595 (2015) when Fisk wins the election for Mayor of New York. And even two scenes from Daredevil #39 (2003) where Matt is defending Hector Ayala aka the White Tiger. But the really interesting choice here is that they chose Daredevil #82 (2006) and linked it to the death of Foggy Nelson… but in the comic, it was the “apparent death” of Foggy as it is revealed five issues later that he is still alive. I’m sure this won’t add to the growing speculation that Foggy isn’t really dead.

There has been one person missing from all of the trailers and promotional material we’ve seen for Thunderbolts*. Originally Ayo Edebiri from The Bear was cast in the film to play Val’s assistant, named Erin. Then Edebiri had to leave the project, and she was replaced by Geraldine Viswanathan. While the role is believed to be small, Viswanathan name is appearing on the theater standees alongside some of the higher profile characters. But again, no sign of the character in any trailer until Empire Magazine released this new image from the film showing Viswanathan standing next to Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine along with a few masked soldiers. There is, of course, on-line speculation that Erin will turn out to be a more prominent character from the comics… but in a movie with this many costumed characters, I wouldn’t bet on it.
