Dynamite Entertainment and CBS Consumer Products announced today a new license agreement for two classic properties from the rich history of television: the animated legend Mighty Mouse, and the hit 90's series Charmed!

Mighty Mouse returns to comics for the first time in 30 years, just in time for the character's 75th anniversary in 2017! Mighty Mouse was first conceived in 1942 as a parody of another cape and cowl hero introduced a few years earlier, and went on to star in countless animated films for the better part of the next 20 years, finding a new life on Saturday mornings in the 1960's.

"Mighty Mouse is as much a part of American pop culture as the two characters he is inspired by," says Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and publisher. "The original comics and animation entertained generations of fans, and with the popularity of superhero movies, there couldn't be a better time for his return! I am thrilled that Dynamite will be able to bring this timeless hero to a whole new generation of fans."

Charmed premiered critical acclaim and commercial success, and by the end of its eight-season run, had won numerous awards and aired in more than 20 countries. Charmed follows the Halliwell sisters: three witches, each powerful in her own right, but invincible when they come together to summon The Power of Three. Protecting innocents from the underworld's demons, the Halliwell sisters battle evil from their family home in San Francisco.

"Charmed is a perfect fit for Dynamite for a number of reasons," says Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci. "We have had tremendous success with cult television properties, and the Halliwell sisters will be right at home. Our plans for these new series are sure to please comics readers and die-hard TV junkies alike!"

Details on Dynamite's upcoming Mighty Mouse and Charmed publishing programs will be released in the coming months.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge on why she quit 'Mr & Mrs Smith' series

The Tomb Raider TV series is moving forward at Amazon. A year and change after The Hollywood Reporter revealed Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge was writing and producing an adaptation of the popular video game turned action movie Tomb Raider, the retail giant/streamer has handed out a series order for the live-action series. A worldwide casting search will begin soon for an actress to play Lara Croft in the series from Legendary Television. The surprise announcement was made Tuesday during Amazon’s first trip to woo Madison Avenue ad buyers at TV’s Upfront week in New York, with the news arriving after another video game adaptation, Fallout, has become a breakout hit for the service. The Tomb Raider TV series is the first project to stem from a massive rights deal with Johnson’s dj2 Entertainment. A feature film and at least one video game in the Lara Croft franchise are also in the works as Amazon plots a Marvel-like franchise with all of the projects connected.

These apes are going to need a bigger boat for their cash! 20th Century Studios‘ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has come in over expectations with a $58.5M opening. Sunday came in at $16.5M, down 19%, a strong attributable to Mother’s Day. Who knew moms were fans of the Planet of the Apes movies? Typical Mother’s Day Saturday to Sunday drops are around the -28% range. That’s now the third highest opening for an Apes movie after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6M) and Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes ($68.5M). Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes only cost $160M, which is cheaper than Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes which cost $190M before P&A. As Deadline reported yesterday, there’s hope for summer in a movie that can beat its tracking projections. Not everything is destined to become flat footed.

Recently we’ve been seeing a rise in the number of “insiders” leaking information and photos from upcoming films. And while this has been going on for years, one in particular has hit a nerve with Marvel Studios so much that they have gone to the courts to try and have their true identity revealed. Documents have been found that show that Marvel’s VP of Global Security & Content Protection has subpoenaed Instagram for the identity of who runs the account “CanWeGetSomeToast,” a scooper who is known for posting leaks and spoilers. They are doing this because of a “leaked, pre-release image” from Captain America: Brave New World. The film is already dealing with leaks due to images from the upcoming McDonald’s toy tie-in hitting the web that showed a few characters that have not been officially confirmed for the film. It’s unclear what Marvel plans to do if they are able to get the information about who runs the account.Cap
