Multiple Eisner Award winning grand masters Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips—of Reckless, Pulp, Criminal, and Kill or Be Killed fame—with colors by Jacob Phillps ( That Texas Blood), will bring fans another sure-fire hit in the upcoming, Night Fever. This original graphic novel will hit shelves in June 2023 from Image Comics. Night Fever is a pulse-pounding noir thriller featuring the Jekyll-and-Hyde story of a man facing the darkness inside himself. This riveting tour-of-the-night is a must-have for all Brubaker and Phillips readers. " Night Fever is a story that's been scratching at the back of my skull for a long time now and man, is this a weird one," said Brubaker. "Inspired partly by old Black Lizard noir novels and weird and sexy European comics from the 70s, this book is a dark trip into what being alive right now feels like, but hopefully a thrilling one for our readers, too. I know it's the best art of Sean's entire career, which feels almost unbelievable. But it's true." In Europe on a business trip, Jonathan Webb can't sleep. Instead, he finds himself wandering the night in a strange foreign city, with his new friend, the mysterious and violent Rainer as his guide. Rainer shows Jonathan the hidden world of the night, a world without rules or limits. But when the fun turns dangerous, Jonathan may find himself trapped in the dark... And the question is, what will he do to get home? "One of my great pleasures over the last decade has been watching Ed and Sean produce story after amazing story—from Fatale in January 2012 right up to last month's Reckless graphic novel, Follow Me Down—so what better way to start kick off the next 10 years than with yet another astonishing entry into their illustrious canon with Night Fever," said Eric Stephenson, Publisher at Image Comics. "If you've enjoyed Ed and Sean's previous collaborations, as well as Ed's work with Steve Epting on Velvet and Marcos Martín on Friday—trust me, you are in for a treat." Night Fever (ISBN: 978-1-5343-2609-5) will be available on Wednesday, June 14 at local comic book shops and on Tuesday, June 20 it will hit shelves at independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, and Indigo. Night Fever will release digitally across many platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

Earth's ultimate protector returns for a new era of stories, as Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products present Captain Planet in an epic new comic series starting this April. "Every comic creator has their own personal white whale — that singular property they’ve been itching to make their mark on — and for more than a decade Captain Planet has been mine," said writer David Pepose. Five ordinary young people from around the world must become humanity's last hope after being chosen to wield elemental rings of Gaia, the High Priestess of Earth. Each Planeteer suddenly finds themselves equipped with abilities aligned with one of the world's elemental forces: Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart. And in the most dire circumstances, the five can combine these powers together to summon the globe's greatest champion — Captain Planet! Kwame from Ghana wields the power of Earth. Wheeler hails from the United States and channels Fire. Linka's origins are in Russia and she can manipulate Wind. Gi traces back to South Korea and can control Water. Ma-Ti is from Brazil and uses Heart. Red-hot superstar writer David Pepose ( Space Ghost, Cable) fuses his powers with artist Eman Casallos ( Vampirella, Pathfinder) for the first comics series starring Captain Planet in over three decades. They're kicking off the story with an energized, yet faithful modernization of the franchise, in the same vein as Pepose's approach to the smash-hit Space Ghost series. Before these would-be eco-warriors can grasp their own newfound powers in pursuit of environmental justice, they're first going to have to learn to trust each other. It will be even more of a trial by fire experience when Gaia is kidnapped, forcing the inexperienced Planeteers to learn in action against the well-financed might of Lucian Plunder. Their first test against the ruthless exploiters of Earth won't be the hardest, but it all starts here! Pepose is ambitiously embracing bringing this beloved 1990s cartoon to the comics page, for the first time at this scale and tone. It will appeal both to those who grew up on the show and are now seasoned adults in tune with the real world headlines that inspire the challenges of the Planeteers, as well as their children and other younger readers. He has described the excitement in trying to balance a moment to shine in each and every issue for all the main characters, their own emotional arcs, showcasing the might of Captain Planet, and bringing in some of the show's iconic villains. The first issue is scheduled to release April 23, timed to the same week as Earth Day. Dynamite is also proud to announce that Captain Planet issues will be printed on 70% recycled paper, as with all of the publisher's periodicals. For this historic return of the iconic franchise, Dynamite has assembled a team just as diverse as the Planeteers to contribute jaw-dropping covers for the series. The first issue features variants by superstar Mark Spears, known for his Monsters series; Christian Ward; and Ben Oliver. The first six issues will also feature a special connecting set of covers by Jae Lee and June Chung. CAPTAIN PLANET #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ February 2025 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in April 2025. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more! ...

It's been well believed for a while that the early casting of Milly Alcock to play Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl was so that the character could debut in this year’s Superman movie. It was also believed that when James Gunn said that he had shown the Superman trailer to an unannounced actress in the film who cried while watching it, that many believed he was speaking of Alcock. People even believe they see Alcock’s reflecting in the damaged robot show in the trailer… if the zoomed in really far that is. All of this could be why when The Hollywood Reporter had their exclusive about David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham joining the now filming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Kara’s parents, no one really batted an eye when the article said: “Alcock was picked as Supergirl almost a year ago and will first appear in Gunn’s Superman movie. Supergirl gets underway this winter and will shoot in the UK.” Was THR simply stating as fact what everyone has come to expect or was this confirmation of Supergirl returning to the big screen for the first time in over forty years? It would explain why Alcock was cast in the role a year before production on the film began.

DC Studios is working on a logo for the Elseworlds productions that will be different from DC Logo and Fanfare we see at the start of the in-universe projects like Creature Commandos and the upcoming Superman. We know this because co-head of the studio, James Gunn, was asked about it on social media by Jesse T White, “Hey James, If shows like the Penguin and Harley Quinn are now DC Studios shows… why isn’t the DC Studios logo or fanfare attached to them?” To which Gunn replied, “All DC television & film projects are no under DC Studios. Because Harley Quinn was developed long before us we didn’t think it was fair to put the DC Studio fanfare on there. On Penguin, which we had a small hand in developing, we have a different DC Studios animation at the end. We’re currently working on the DC Studios Elseworlds opening.” Having a different opening is more than just a good idea, it would be a way to let audience know for sure at the start of a project whether what they are about to see is part of the main DCU or a stand-alone story.

With the Supreme Court ruling allowing the ban of the social media platform TikTok, the popular site went dark Sunday evening along with their sister site Lemon8. But to many people’s surprise, a popular mobile game, Marvel Snap, was also caught up in the ban. When you try to enter the game there is a message that reads: “Marvel Snap is temporarily unavailable in the U.S. Unfortunately Marvel Snap is temporarily unable on U.S. stores and is unavailable to play in the U.S. This outage is a surprise to us and wasn’t planned. Marvel Snap isn’t going anywhere. We’re actively working on getting the game up as soon as possible and will update you once we have more to share.” Second Diner, the developer of the game were caught by surprise and not warned by their parent company Bytedance. It was believed that Bytedance had divested itself from the TikTok related company Nuverse but apparently not enough and all of Bytedance’s games are being taken off-line. Ben Brode, Marvel Snaps’ Chief Development Officer, is actually recommending that players use a VPN, which can make it seem like you’re playing from Canada, to get around the ban temporarily. It’s believed that this ban will be temporary having to do with the change of political parties in the White House and the CEO of Bytedance has been invited to the next president’s inauguration on Monday.

There have been reports that a flashback scene had been considered and then passed on in the Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew series that would’ve given us a bit more about the background of Jod Na Nawood ( Jude Law) and the Jedi that found him. The reason the scene was cut had to do with the series being told from the kids’ point of view and a flashback wouldn’t make sense. But we may know at least what the Jedi who found Jod would’ve looked like. Actress Yasmine al Massri has posted on social media photos of herself dressed as a Jedi with the following story: “This was the shortest acting job I have done but the most meaningful to the child in me.. playing a Jedi for one scene in Skeleton Crew.. i gave a speech when i crew wrapped me on set saying : you just created the first Arab female Jedi.. thank you.. the scene unfortunately Didn’t make it to the finale cut bc these things happen.. but I can not not share my experience and feelings.. even Liam rehearsed that scene with me and I got to brag about it with his friends which got me According to Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos, visionary filmmaker David Lynch was working on a new limited series for the streamer when he passed away this week. In a social media post praising Lynch, Sarandos talked about meeting the celebrated creator early on when Netflix was still a physical media rental company to his most recent interaction, and of the project Lynch had brought to them a while back. “It was a David Lynch production, so filled with mystery and risks but we wanted to go on this creative ride with this genius. First Covid, then some health uncertainties lead to this project never being produced but we made it clear that as soon as he was able, we were all in.” With Lynch’s passing, Sarandos admitted that he will “always wonder about what he had in mind for us with what would have been his last project.”

The return of a classic sitcom appears to have come to an end. Paramount+ has opted not to renew Fraiser for a third season, though CBS Studios plans to shop the Kelsey Grammer-led comedy to other outlets. Possibilities include Prime Video and Hulu, where the original series are available for streaming. The two seasons so far just couldn’t make a mark on the streaming service that does well with shows created by Taylor Sheridan and variations on Star Trek. It was one of only two original comedies on the platform, the other being Colin From Accounts which is doing well and under a different model. The character of Fraiser Crane began on Cheers before getting a spinoff series that ran from 1993 until 2004. This new series focused on Fraiser later in his life, having moved to Boston to try and reconnect with his son Freddy played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. While the new series featured many new characters, they also brought in familiar faces like Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith played by Bebe Neuwirth and his ex-co-worker Roz played by Peri Gilpin. There was an attempt to entice David Hyde Pierce who played Fraiser’s brother Niles into appearing in the series, but he declined.

A dark new threat is coming to the galaxy far, far away, but true Star Wars fans know he’s been around much longer than anyone might expect! Inspired by unused Return of the Jedi concept art, ATHA PRIME was planned to be the main villain for an unreleased Kenner toy line in the ’80s, one that was intended to continue the success of Star Wars action figures following the release of the Original Trilogy films. Now, decades later, ATHA PRIME will officially debut in Marvel’s upcoming STAR WARS: JEDI KNIGHTS comic series. Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and acclaimed Star Wars comics writer Marc Guggenheim and rising star artist Madibek Musabekov will introduce the character as a mysterious planet’s tyrannical ruler who boldly opposes the Republic and the Jedi Order. Befitting his legacy, ATHA PRIME is spotlighted on John Tyler Christopher’s Action Figure Variant Cover for STAR WARS: JEDI KNIGHT #1 and will also be featured on Ramon Rosanas’ Foil Variant Cover. ATHA PRIME was also previously teased on Rosanas’ “Sneak Preview” variant cover for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1. “While developing the series, Marc discovered this deep cut—the antagonist from Kenner’s unrealized The Epic Continues toy line,” Editor Mark Paniccia explained. “We saw the original design and were immediately sold. What a cool character to bring into canon and what a perfect book to do it in!” Hitting stands on March 5, STAR WARS: JEDI KNIGHTS takes place before The Phantom Menace and stars legendary Prequel Trilogy icons like Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and more, including fan-favorite characters and all-new Jedi. Each thrilling issue follows a different Jedi duo on pivotal missions throughout the galaxy, with an overarching threat binding them together. Who is the mysterious new villain targeting Qui-Gon Jinn for death, and how will it force the Jedi Order to evolve for a new age? “I love the idea that the Jedi are the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy,” Guggenheim said. “But there are surprisingly few examples of that out there — mainly because the Jedi get sucked into the Clone Wars. I’m as much of a fan of the Clone Wars as the next guy, but I really craved seeing the Jedi doing their thing on a non-war footing. That’s the great appeal of this new Jedi Knights series: We really get a chance to see what the Jedi did before the Clone Wars and their eventual fall.” Preorder STAR WARS: JEDI KNIGHTS #1 at your local comic shop today! ...

David Krumholtz, who was recently part of the all-star cast of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and British actress Emily Beecham have joined the space-faring cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Craig Gillespie is directing for Warner Bros. Discovery arm DC Studios. The feature, which began shooting this week in DC’s UK production hub of Leavesden, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book mini-series and stars House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock playing Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. It’s unclear how faithful the script by Ana Nogueira is to the comic, which eschewed the traditional good vs. bad tropes and instead was a cosmic character piece, spanning many worlds and alien cultures. The Eisner-nominated 2021 story was told from the perspective of a young alien girl named Ruthye who enlists the aid of Supergirl is a quest of revenge against Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man who killed her father. Eve Ridley is on the call sheet as Ruthye while Matthias Schoenaerts is Krem. Jason Momoa is due to cameo as alien bounty hunter Lobo. Krumholtz and Beecham will play Supergirl’s parents. (via THR)
