New ThunderCats Character Apex Explored in Special! Ed Brisson Sets Up Next Phase for Comics Franchise! | September 26, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products are excited to announce the next pivotal chapter in the new comic book mythos of the ThunderCats. This December fans can celebrate with the Apex special alongside writer Ed Brisson (Batman Incorporated, Predator) and artist Rapha Lobosco.
At the end of September in ThunderCats #8, fans got to meet the mysterious character of Apex for the first time. Following that fantastic first appearance, more critical details on their identity will be revealed in this special release to close out the first calendar year of ThunderCats comics and tee up the next developments.
Across a desert landscape, a cloaked rider emerges from the shimmering heat. A lone figure on a battered mount, he’s a tempting target for bandits — and temptation is not something that the inhabitants of these badlands are inclined to resist. Unfortunately for the miscreants who decide to waylay him, that choice will likely be the last one they ever make. And when the dusty traveler walks into the local saloon, it soon becomes clear that anyone who stands between him and his mission will share the same fate. But who is this mysterious stranger — and what is the target that he has fixed his glowing red eye upon? Meet Apex...
"I was a big ThunderCats fan as a kid," said writer Ed Brisson. "Like so many of my generation, I was a latchkey kid and would come home after school and settle in for cartoons, of which ThunderCats was a favorite. I had the toys, I collected the comics, I loved them. I'm hoping that we can do justice to the original series, while also surprising readers with our approach in this one."
“Apex is new to the reader, but he’s been planning and plotting behind the scenes for a LONG time," added editor Nate Cosby. "He’s here to stay. He showed up first in ThunderCats #8, and in the ThunderCats Apex Special, Ed and Rapha show who he is, what he wants, and how that’ll affect the TCats for years to come…”
Described by the Batman Incorporated and Uncanny X-Men scribe as a bit of Unforgiven meets Mad Max, ThunderCats: Apex provides an incredible package for fans. The issue is stuffed with 28 story pages featuring the gorgeous artwork of Rapha Lobosco (James Bond: 007), at no additional cost than a standard release from Dynamite. And it's all topped off with a range of otherworldly covers from flagship series helmer Declan Shalvey, Lucio Parrillo, Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and interior artist Robosco.
The story within sets the stage for the dramatic next main story arc launching in ThunderCats #11, so it's an essential installment in the ever-evolving saga from Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products!
THUNDERCATS: APEX is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ October 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in December 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
