Fire and Ice's Maniacal Nekron Stars in Special! Sara Frazetta & Geof Isherwood Craft Chilling Tale This December
| September 25, Mt. Laurel, NJ: The world of Fire and Ice expands further this December with a brand new special comic book focusing on the central villain Nekron. The classic film collaboration between Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta continues the family legacy in this new release with Frank's granddaughter Sara Frazetta leading the charge!
“When I started writing Nekron, I rewatched Fire and Ice a few times and focused on the shadowy spaces in the plot," said writer Sara Frazetta. "I’m the kind of person who always needs to know why, so an origin story was right up my alley. Pieces of the story came to me while walking my dogs, others in dreams—it consumed me for weeks, and I loved every moment of the process. I’m incredibly overjoyed with gratitude that Dynamite asked me to do this. Thank you to the entire team for allowing me to rediscover the pure joy of creation.”
Lord Nekron is the tyrannical ruler of Icepeak. The son of Queen Juliana, he learned the dark arts of sorcery from her and the pair conspired to kidnap Teegra. Nekron's powerful magic allows him to move entire glaciers, kicking off the epic war between his lands and Firekeep. In the events of the film, his evil brings him face to face with both Larn and Darkwolf.
In this new story, Sara Frazetta reveals the twisted origin of one of fantasy's most terrifying villains. Across 28 luscious pages of story, fans will follow this cautionary tale of grief, rage, and the ultimate corruption of ambition. After her royal spouse was burned alive before her eyes, Queen Juliana turned her back on the gods of balance and pledged her life to the Wolf-God, Ulghir. In secret, she bled for him. In silence, she absorbed his teachings. And then, in darkness, she gave birth to two sons — one conceived in love, the other from black magic — thus setting in motion the tragic events that spell doom for the Realms of Ice and Fire!
To bring Frazetta's script to the page, artist Geof Isherwood joins the team. The legendary illustrator, painter, and writer is known for his tenures on top titles like Doctor Strange, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Suicide Squad, The 'Nam, and he's no stranger to swords and sorcery by way of his prolific contributions to stories of Conan the Barbarian, another shared work with Frank Frazetta's career.
This stellar creative team is complemented with hauntingly handsome covers by superstars Dan Panosian, Jae Lee, and Steve E. Gordon.
A fabulous fourth cover is available exclusively as part of a mystery blind bag variant! Each of these bags includes two separate copies of the issue, both of which are exclusive to the Blind Bag — one Blank Authentix edition, and also one of five unique variant cover art editions. 70% of bags will feature the mystery fourth cover with trade dress, with others may include black and white lineart or "virgin" variations on the other three revealed covers.
Fire and Ice: Nekron follows and complements a flagship comic series for the franchise, as well as a previous character special focused on Teegra, with top creators including Bill Willingham, Leonardo Manco, Gabriele di Caro, and others contributing.
