Red Sonja Brings the Fight in Mars Attacks! Crossover Rising Star Jay Stephens Writes Fun-Filled New Series
| December 12, Mt. Laurel, NJ: The maniacal Martians of the cult classic Mars Attacks! brought the fight to the She-Devil With a Sword before, but now in a new series coming this March, Red Sonja Attacks Mars! Dynamite announces epic crossover full of action and laughs from perfect fit writer Jay Stephens (Dwellings).
Sonja is serving out a life-debt when she discovers a sinister prophecy of cosmic foulness from beyond the stars. To stop the imminent destruction of the whole world and her beloved Hyrkania, she must trek from the deserts in the south all the way to the northern shores of the Vilayet Sea. There she will go toe to toe with the big-headed insidious invaders back once more from Mars. Along the way she will face trials too, serpent-men, metamorlocks, and ancient monster-gods in her path.
Horror and humor master Jay Stephens, beloved for his genius series Dwellings and contributions to new titles like Tales from the Abyss, writes this new series and is joined by returning artist Fran Strukan. The cross-genre flavors of retro science fiction, sword and sorcery action, and dark comedy are all whipped up into a special Neapolitan twist of entertaining comics brilliance that will have readers crying "ACK ACK!" for more!
"I’m having such a blast! It feels like you could see me drooling over my Norman Saunders (the original Mars Attacks! card creator) art book, which I do more often than would be considered sane," said writer Jay Stephens. "Campy, horrifying, mid-century, and notorious does seem to be my vibe. I’m always striving for that reimagined nostalgia… a sort of irreverent reverence for the things that haunted me as a kid."
This interplanetary event for the ages is complemented by brain-bending covers from superstars Joseph Michael Linsner, Jae Lee, and Greg Land.
As a tribute to the classic trading card roots of Mars Attacks!, each cardstock variant cover of the first issue will additionally be polybagged with exclusive collectible cards featuring the piece from the respective artists, free of trade dress.
RED SONJA ATTACKS MARS #1 is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ January 2025 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in March 2025. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
