December 7, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite announces today a gorgeous new limited edition Vampirella variant comic book featuring the art of fan-favorite creator Tyler Kirkham. It's available right now on Indiegogo!
This is not Kirkham's first take on the Daughter of Drakulon. Nearly 20 years ago as some of his earliest professional work, he illustrated a cover toward the end of the character's series that launched in 2001 under juggernaut writer Mark Millar (Kingsman, Civil War) and artist Mike Mayhew.
"It's always a pleasure working on Vampirella and with the folks at Dynamite," said Tyler Kirkham. "In my opinion Vampirella is one of the most iconic comic book characters. If you are interested in the medium you know her and her costume. So I always jump at the chance to draw here! This cover was actually inspired by a series of photos I have seen. Painted wings on a wall. When you stand in front of it, it gives the illusion you have wings. I felt this was fitting for Vampi. Of course hers is painted in blood though!"
This new limited edition release also calls back to that heralded era of Vampirella. Underneath the gorgeous original cover is a special presentation of Vampirella: Blood Lust #1 from James Robinson (Starman) and the jaw-dropping painted interior work of Joe Jusko. This fan-favorite story was published while Vampirella was dead following the massive Death & Destruction event, yet also delved into the Drakulonian's backstory and lore. It is a foundational arc in any longtime Vampirella fan's collection.
Tyler Kirkham broke out as a success story in the industry alongside a wave of new talent in the early 2000s cultivated by Top Cow under the tutelage of the legendary Marc Silvestri. As part of Top Cow's artistic partnership with Marvel at the time, Kirkham went on to hotly anticipated runs on X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four. Then in 2011 he made the shift to working for DC and a long celebrated association with the Green Lantern comics at the peak of their popularity. Following that he contributed to icons like Superman, Teen Titans, Deathstroke, and more. His most recent splash hit was the Indiegogo debuting original graphic novel Final Boss.
The cover is available with or without logo trade dress, as a black and white inked edition, and as a premium high-gloss metal variant. A limited number will be treated with red foil for the ultimate collectible. Copies are also available signed and/or CGC graded, as well as combo packs for the best deals.
