The Terminator Comic Features Special Variant by Master of Metallics Bob Layton | October 15, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite's brand new era of shiny and deadly The Terminator comics unleashed its debut on fans and now its success is being celebrated with a special release featuring art from one of the industry's greats!
The Terminator #1 by writer Declan Shalvey (ThunderCats, Alien) released everywhere fine comics are sold on Wednesday October 9. The series opens a new expanding web of stories depicting Skynet unleashing a wave of Terminators against resistance fighters, their ancestors and allies, across the globe and the timestream. It's been met with great acclaim so far from both fans and critics, and support from retailers.
"Dives into some wonderful character development, giving us a reason to care for the characters in each panel and the threat being brought to their front door ... The visuals are dynamic and echo the cinematic feel of the original films while capturing uniquely comic moments too." - Capes & Tights
Excitement around the return of the franchise to comics, a successful six-figures BackerKit campaign for archival reprints, the top tier creative team, and all the great coverage from press and influencers helped The Terminator #1 blast past 61,000 copies sold.
An upcoming piece for a "Final Order Cutoff" exclusive variant cover of The Terminator #2 features artwork by comics titan Bob Layton. His legacy makes him the perfect fit for The Terminator, with the stunning cover showcasing the iconic killing machine in all its shiny glory!
Getting his start as the apprentice of innovator and master Wally Wood, Layton quickly rose the ranks to become a signature inker of the 1970s and beyond, often contributing pencils and writing as well. His work on Iron Man is perhaps his most signature, across multiple celebrated tenures and returns. His artwork is instantly recognizable in depicting the armor-encased hero, and similar creations like Metallix.
The Terminator #2 turns its spotlight to the setting of Saigon in 1975, as an unexpected formidable enemy force sets its sights on soldiers. The war is winding down and the American forces are retreating. One unlucky G.I. is enjoying his final leave in the South Vietnamese capital. But everything goes awry when he's urgently recalled to the front. Private Duggan will face off with an enemy that doesn't operate like any Viet Cong or NVA unit he's come across. Rumors quickly spread about this "one-man platoon" impervious to bullets and grenades, undeterred by fear or hesitation — seemingly inhuman.
The Terminator #2 will be in stores November 13, and final preorders from fans are due before September 23! Further details on ordering of this special variant cover will be shared with retailers and readers in the coming days.
