Comic Icon George Perez Tributed Once More on The EXP Portion of Proceeds to Go to George’s Wife and Cancer Research
| December 15, Mt. Laurel, NJ: This Friday, December 16, 2022 at 7PM EST/4PM PST, the Original Art Experience Show hosted by Nick Barrucci will once more be celebrating the legacy and art of George Perez with a night showcasing and auctioning original comic book artwork. Also featured will be some of George's iconic custom shirts hand-made by his wife Carol Flynn. The majority of proceeds from the sales will go to Carol.
Born in New York City, the home of the comic book medium, to Puerto Rican immigrant parents, George went on to become a titan of his craft and beloved by fans. One of his earliest achievements was co-creating the first major Puerto Rican superhero, White Tiger, alongside Bill Mantlo. From there, his career would skyrocket with celebrated tenures on Avengers and Fantastic Four. With writer Marv Wolfman at DC Comics, their collaborations on New Teen Titans and the industry-shaking Crisis on Infinite Earths continue to be cherished and influential generations later. He is also considered by many to still to this day be both the definitive writer and artist for Wonder Woman. Across 45 years in comics, George's impeccable detail, realistic rendering, and fan-favorite packed crowd and action scenes made him one of the inner circle greats. Perez passed away in May 2022 from complications related to pancreatic cancer.
Offered during the show are a range of original pieces of art and collectibles. Five total pieces from the series Thanos vs. Hulk by Jim Starlin and Andy Smith will be included, one being a double page splash. Recreations by Bob Layton of the covers to Amazing Spider-Man #129 (first Punisher), Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man #32, and Iron Man #80 are on offer. A page by Ron Garney and Christopher Ivy from Ghost Rider #42 will be available. A stunning John Romita Jr. and Tom Palmer page from Avengers #7 will also be included. Dealer The Artist's Choice is also offering the rare chance to get authenticated sharpies that John Romita Sr. has used for countless autographs. George Perez focused pieces include a Christmas themed shirt in time for the holidays, and a trading card from the Eclipse Famous Comic Book Creators set from 1992.
