Evil Ernie Kickstarter Brings Classics Back to Print!
Marking Start of Dynamite X Coffin Collaboration on Chaos! Archives

April 30, Mt. Laurel, NJ:
Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics are officially opening the vaults and reintroducing fans to some of the most beloved and revolutionary comics, as The Evil One makes his way to Kickstarter. Across three tantalizing tomes, the entire original Evil Ernie archives from the Chaos! Comics era have been restored and are available for readers anew with exclusive premiere pricing. The campaign is live now for a limited time!

For over two decades these iconic, trailblazing stories have been locked away. Out of print, hard to find, and a pretty penny. Fans have whispered among the back issue bins, scrambled for overpriced auctions, and collected in groups online to reflect back on how dangerous comic books used to feel. That ends now.

Chaos! Comics struck like lightning in 1993, capturing a unique mix of superhero staples with a horror bent that led to a legion of fiendish fans. It all started with the debut of Evil Ernie #1 a couple years prior. Ernie and the Chaos! energy weren't just comics, it was a heavy metal way of life. Ernie represented rage, pain, rebellion, and dark humor, all channeled through the hottest medium of the 1990s. Creators Brian Pulido, Steven Hughes, and the rest of the top writers and artists who tackled these characters built a following that get together annually to this day. And now fans can return to that era and step into a new one, with the return of every key Ernie tale!

The Evil Ernie Omnibus Set features three volumes, oversized at 9 by 12 inches each. These meticulously restored collections feature every solo Evil Ernie and Smiley: The Psychotic Button story from 1991 to 2002. Each volume builds on the last, increasing in scope and intensity across around 500 pages each, pulling in deeper cuts, and descending into the madness of Evil Ernie. All essential, fans won't want to miss this indispensable set. In addition to the long desired stories - at an unprecedented scale - mastermind Brian Pulido has gone deep into both his mind and archives to present behind the scenes history and newly generated recollections on the tales behind the terror.

The first book includes the industry-shattering debut miniseries, originally published by Eternity Comics and later subtitled Youth Gone Wild. Also within its pages are The Resurrection, Revenge, Straight to Hell, and the classic zero issue featuring a Greg Capullo cover. The action ramps up in the second volume with Destroyer, Evil Ernie #1/2, and the full ongoing series encompassing the arcs "Vampire Vengeance," "Fear Itself," "Christmas Evil," and "Trauma." Last but certainly not least, the thrilling trio closes out with Depraved, War of the Dead, Pieces of Me, Returns, Relentless, Alien Evil, fun crossover specials facing off against superheroes and movie monsters, a "What If" style book, and all five fabulous Smiley specials.

The set is available in three distinct editions, with every volume across them featuring unique cover artwork. The main hardcover set features the full 1,500 pages of terrifying action at the deluxe size, with black trim accents. The first upgrade is the signed set limited to only 666 sets, with a fitting Ernie green, and individually signed by Brian Pulido himself. Then for the ultimate collectors, the Super Deluxe set is also signed, with blazing red, page gilding, a ribbon bookmark, spot-laminated covers, and even more limited at just 333 sets available.

Stretch goals and surprise drops as the campaign progresses will determine even more exciting collectibles and enhancements. Early backers can stay tuned for updates!

Regardless of which of the three options fans choose, they all will slide perfectly into the available slipcase. This item is set to be exclusively available through Kickstarter to those who pledge for any of the full set reward tiers, and will complement future slipcases from the Chaos! library.

This Kickstarter is not just about restoring some classic comics, but reigniting a beloved brand and reconnecting fans who have been strewn across comics while the Chaos! energy has lain dormant. Alongside the omnibuses, a full slate of campaign exclusive add-ons are being unleashed!

Collectors can cop a range of exciting extras rooted in the visual identity and attitude of classic Chaos! and with direct oversight from Brian Pulido. Exclusive facsimile comic reprints, prints, posters, patches, coins, and apparel have jumped right out of the 1990s... only sharper, louder, and with modern production standards.

Of particular note is a brand new Evil Ernie masterpiece by Simon Bisley, the maverick artist who reinvented Lobo in the era when Chaos! reigned. This new artwork is available through a Youth Gone Wild #1 limited edition or a gorgeous 11 by 17 inch print.

The scope and depth of information, comics, and collectibles in this project - just the first of many - is deep and fans are encouraged to check out the entire Kickstarter campaign page to make sure they don't miss anything exciting that is begging to be featured in their own Chaos! cave!

This Evil Ernie Kickstarter project marks the first in a series of co-publishing collaborations between Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics. Fans can look forward to future projects featuring favorites like Lady Death (who makes her first appearance in Youth Gone Wild), Purgatori, Chastity, and more. The best way to keep up is by following and pledging to Ernie, so one doesn't miss out on any of the great goodies in the works!
