FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Diamond Retailer Summit Announcement

RISING STAR AMY CHU TACKLES AN ALL-NEW ADVENTURE
FOR THE SHE-DEVIL WITH A SWORD, RED SONJA!

All-New Red Sonja Series Launches with a Special,
Introductory-Priced 25-Cent #0 Issue in December

August 30, 2016, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Writer Amy Chu expands her work at Dynamite with the announcement that she will follow her run on Dynamite's upcoming KISS with a brand new series featuring the publisher's most well known heroine! Teaming with artist Carlos Gomez (perhaps best known for his work on Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files), the untamed She-Devil with a Sword faces a whole different world and challenges in this new adventure!

Somewhere deep underground, strange and powerful demons clad in metal armor attack and roust Red Sonja from a deep magical sleep. Confused and weaponless, she must find a way to defeat these mysterious creatures, escape from her solitary prison, and make her way to the surface to discover where she is, and why she was put there...

"I want to represent Red Sonja in the purest way possible. She's a warrior, first and foremost. She's familiar with a certain way of life, a certain way of fighting. What if we take that away and put her in a completely new environment where she's forced to adapt? Let's get her out of her comfort zone and see where Red Sonja goes from there!" says writer Amy Chu. "Scott Snyder is doing that right now in All Star Batman, taking Batman out of Gotham and putting him on the road, and I think that's quite exciting. It's a win-win, something refreshing for the readers, and a great challenge for the creative team. There's going to be a lot of action and adventure with a little splash of mystery, and we're going to see her abilities tested in new ways, all starting with Issue #0."

"I have really enjoyed Amy's work to date, from Poison Ivy to Vertigo Quarterly CMYK, Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman to Strange Sports Stories. We've been speaking about her working with the team at Dynamite for quite some time, but it had to be the right project. As the stars aligned, we ended up finding not one, but two projects to work on together," says Dynamite CEO and Publisher, Nick Barrucci. "After seeing what she had done with KISS, we knew she was the perfect choice for our favorite Hyrkanian warrior. Pairing her with Carlos Gomez, who had been doing such great work for us on the Dresden Files books, is perfection. We have such incredible faith in the series that we're launching it at the Introductory Price of $0.25, just to get it into the most hands possible. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!"

Amy Chu is perhaps best known for her celebrated run on DC's Poison Ivy, but has also written such notables as Infinite Ant-Man and Deadpool for Marvel, as well The X-Files for IDW. She is currently writing Dynamite's upcoming KISS series, premiering in October. Artist Carlos Gomez recently finished Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files: Wild Card, collected into a hardcover graphic novel this October.

Red Sonja #0 features a cover by Nick Bradshaw, along with two incentive covers to be announced soon. Red Sonja will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' October 2016 Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in December. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. Red Sonja will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.
