Author David Liss Resurrects the Literary World's Greatest Villain!
Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives Comic Book Series in December!

September 9, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ - Baltimore Comic Con Announcement - Dynamite is proud to announce the upcoming release of Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives, a five-issue comic book miniseries that pits the literary world's greatest villain Professor Moriarty against a foe every bit as devious and deadly.  Written by David Liss (The Shadow Now, Black Panther) and featuring the artistic talent of Daniel Indro (Mark Waid's The Green Hornet), the new Moriarty Lives series launches its first issue in December with a cover by Eisner Award-winning artist Francesco Francavilla (Black Beetle).

The first issue of Moriarty Lives begins where the epic Sherlock Holmes story ends:  the final confrontation between the legendary detective and criminal mastermind above Reichenbach Falls, where both seemingly plummet to their doom... or have they?  Washed ashore near a strange town in Switzerland, Professor James Moriarty finds himself alone, penniless, and without his network of thieves.  Will his cunning and guile be enough against a foe more relentless than Holmes himself?  It's one of the greatest villains of all time in a pitched confrontation the likes of which his fans have never seen.

"Moriarty is, of course, one of the best-known villains in literature, but I've always been interested in the idea of telling a story from his perspective," says writer David Liss.  "No one is the villain of their own narrative, and no one is evil all the time, so I thought it would be fun to tell a story about a very bad man who finds himself in a situation in which he chooses to be good -- mostly.  At least a little.  This story is going to take place right after the Arthur Conan Doyle story, "The Final Problem," in which both presumably die in Switzerland.  What if Moriarty survived the fall?  Where did he go?  This is going to be a gritty comic, but also a fun adventure in which Moriarty's devious mind is set against an even more evil and dangerous enemy."

David Liss has written comic books for Marvel and Dynamite, including Black Panther, Mystery Men, The Spider, and The Shadow Now.  He is also the author of five novels, with more on the way.  His debut novel, A Conspiracy of Paper (2000) with its hero, the pugilist-turned-private investigator Benjamin Weaver, was named a New York Times Notable Book and won him the 2001 Barry, MacAvity, and Edgar awards for Best First Novel.  David's second novel, The Coffee Trader (2003), was also named a New York Times Notable Book and was selected by the New York Public Library as one of the year's 25 Books to Remember.  His third novel A Spectacle of Corruption (2004), the sequel to A Conspiracy of Paper, became a national bestseller.  David's fourth novel, The Ethical Assassin (2006), is his first full-length work that is not historical fiction.  David's most recent novel, The Whiskey Rebels, is set in 1790′s Philadelphia and New York. The third Benjamin Weaver novel, The Devil's Company, arrived in stores in late 2009.

"David Liss is a damn fine writer, one who has delivered some of the most atmospheric scripts we've ever seen," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "We've taken that skill and made great use of it on The Spider and The Shadow Now, two pulp series set in the modern era.  Now, we're taking his writing talents and tossing them back in time to 1891, where he can bring to life one of the darkest tales of villainy -- and perhaps redemption -- that we've ever done.  And who better to bring that vision to life than Daniel Indro?  Daniel's work on Mark Waid's The Green Hornet could go from foreboding mood to explosive action in a heartbeat... and that's exactly the feel we need for Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives."

Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives #1 is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' October Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in December 2013.

Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives #1 with their local comic book shop or hobby specialty store.  Sherlock Holmes: Moriarty Lives #1 will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.
