September 29, Mt. Laurel, NJ: When fans think of the She-Devil With a Sword, so many fabulous creators come to mind. In modern times, perhaps no team has had more of an impact on the character and her popularity than the duo of Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Deadpool) and Walter Geovani (Clean Room). Their celebrated 2013 run on the character and continued collaborations are being commemorated with a trio of exclusive comic books available right now on Indiegogo!
Their iconic run is passing its eight year anniversary, and continues to be read by fans looking to explore the character. With a beautiful deluxe omnibus hardcover reprinting their entire tenure, there has never been a better time to delve into this all-time project. Characters including Dark Annisia first appeared in the series, rumored to be in the upcoming blockbuster film which is being consulted on by Gail.
"I am so THRILLED that this is happening. My time with Red Sonja, who has become my favorite character ever, was especially wonderful because of the talent and dedication of Walter, one of the finest artists I've ever gotten to work with," said writer Gail Simone. "We finally get to have copies of our number one issue with these AMAZING covers drawn by Walter, which is an absolute triumph! Add to that the amazing cosplay cover featuring Sonja and Annisia, as played by the incredible Gracie and Morgan, and this is something truly special. Thank you DYNAMITE, and thank you ALWAYS to the readers who have been so supportive and wonderful!"
Walter added, "I was lucky enough to do the interior art for such an amazing run, and now I´m revisiting my favorite characters for an exclusive cover. Also, the Frank Thorne´s homage cover was a lot of fun (and challenging) to do. Plus the Ivan Nunes colors are just AMAZING! I couldn't be more excited!"
Over top a special presentation of their first issue, the Indiegogo campaign offers a trio of exciting unique exclusive covers, with eight total variants. Walter Geovani is one of the most prolific artists on the character, before and after working with Simone. However, by chance he never drew a cover during the pair's original collaboration. Dynamite is rectifying that and taking it to the next level with two covers by him. The first is an homage to the original self-titled Red Sonja #1 from 1976, with its iconic cover by artist Frank Thorne, to this day considered one of the definitive creators on the character. The second cover is a fully original composition by Geovani and meant to capture many of the plot points and characters through his and Gail's run.
A third bonus cover is only available as a reward to fans who purchase a combo pack of the other covers. On it, fan-favorite cosplayer and friend of Gail Simone, Gracie the Cosplay Lass, depicts the She-Devil With a Sword alongside fellow cosplayer Morgan McClung portraying Dark Annisia. Readers of the Hyrkanian heroine have lauded Gracie for her crafting skills, modelling and dedication to portraying her cosplay, especially Red Sonja.
Additional options in the campaign include editions signed by Gail Simone, multiple deals on combined orders, and CGC graded copies.
