All small towns have secrets. All small towns have ghosts. Blackcross, in the Pacific North West of America, has more secrets than most. And it is being haunted by something impossible. BLACKCROSS, a supernatural extension of the PROJECT SUPERPOWERS mythos, is a ghost story about something reaching out from the other side of the night, through the forest and mist of this remote town, to grasp at the hearts of a handful of people who may not find out that they’re the targets of a strange killer until it’s much, much too late.

Re: "Altered States" (including LEGENDERRY)... Eh. These do nothing for me. For DC and Marvel characters who appear in multiple titles every month, the Elseworlds/Alterniverse/What If idea gives them a chance to explore something different (although not every thought variant is inherently interesting). The problem is, IMO, we don't get to see enough of Dynamite's characters on a regular basis to satiate my desire to read about them in their regular incarnations, so an "Altered States" comic book is just taking up space that could be better devoted to publishing the regular versions of these characters.

Definitely getting, when they come out:

The Red Sonja Altered States one does remind me of the original RS/Spider-Man team-up a lot. If it were some sort of sequel to that (obviously without referring to Spider-Man by name), that would be awesome.

            • #7
I also like how the Vampi altered states, is making use of the Planet Drakulon, something that don't get any attention in the regular book.

Yeah, but it's too bad we only get to see Vampirella as a visitor TO, rather than FROM, Drakulon.

Oh, books for eventual probable purchase:

                    ALTERED STATES: RED SONJA
                    ALTERED STATES: VAMPIRELLA
                    ALTERED STATES: THE SHADOW
(Is this one universe, like Legenderry, or what, I wonder?)

What I'm putting in my "Earth-Pulp" universe:
LADY RAWHIDE / LADY ZORRO #1-4 (OF 4) (er, assuming that Zorro actually isn't really dead, since he already is set up as dying in that other book--having "Zorro is dead!" as a hook for two different miniseries, published so close together seems a little odd to me--not continuity-wise, just the sense of "didn't we just have a 'Zorro is dead, characters have to carry on' mini?")
                    DJANGO/ZORRO #5

                    Earth-King Features:
                    KING: FLASH GORDON #3
                    KING: MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN #3
                    KING: PRINCE VALIANT #3
                    KING: THE PHANTOM #3
                    KING: JUNGLE JIM #3

                    Earth-Gold Key
SOLAR: MAN OF THE ATOM #12

(with the whole "what comes next" I am sure there will be more to this line)

                    • #11
I am a bit underwhelmed here. I can go either way on the altered states titles. Honestly, I would be happy just to see more of these characters on a consistent basis.

The Project Superpowers solicit is disappointing. We have been waiting 4 years(?) for chapter 3 and this solicit sounds like it has nothing to do with PSP. That description could be applied to any title or line. Guess we will have to wait and see.

It's the old "They think he's dead" plotline -- just roll with it. It's just an excuse to get Zorro offstage so that the ladies can take the spotlight, while still reminding readers of the connection between the characters.

So close together? Lone Ranger: The Death of Zorro #1 came out in March of 2011, which will make it almost 4 years ago by the time Lady Rawhide/Lady Zorro #1 comes out. Anyway, the plot was completely different there. Zorro himself not only has a very active role in that story, but he really does die. In all likelihood, we won't even see the actual Zorro in Lady Rawhide/Lady Zorro, or if we do, it will amount to a quick cameo role or flashback scene in the first issue, just to get the main plot rolling. The only other option would be to make this a different alternative timeline in which Zorro died at a much younger age than in The Death of Zorro, which would mean putting an end to publishing any further DE comics set in the "normal" Zorro time period -- seems like they'd neither want to close off that option, nor confuse readers with a number of different alternate timeline versions of Zorro. Having a different legacy version of the character like they did in MASKS is something completely different.

If you had solicited this long ago when I was all wrapped up in the Project Superpowers books I would have been all over this. Now, it's been so long I can barely remember them and'll have to go back to reread the main books at least (I have all of them in Trade or HC). I think due to the length of time this has taken I'll be a trade waiter for this series going forward (I need to shorten my pull list anyway, I can't buy every Dynamite thing put out each week )!

Blood Queen vs Dracula #1. Yeah, I really liked Blood Queen's last series although I have never read any Dynamite Dracula (is there one? I'll have to look, not a big Dracula fan unless he's written/played in the vein of Bela Lugosi or Christopher Lee (incidentally why or why couldn't some cool comic company release black and white Universal Horror comics in homage to the style of the old flicks? And even in colour for the Hammer horror universe! I'd get my paycheque direct depositied into the publisher's account). I am adding this to my pull list going forward.

I wasn't too excited about the Altered States lines. One of the main reasons I love(d) buying more indie is not having to buy a plethora of different books per character, crossover events, etc. I've put up with it so far from Dynamite. Neat comments about the Spider-Man/Red Sonja team ups from the past have peaked my interest along with that Nancy Collins Interview on what her plans are for the series. I'm a fence sitter on this one but I am leaning towards getting em all (I love Doc Savage too!) except the Shadow. Never been a fan of his, dunno why... perhaps it was Alec Baldwin as my intro to him?

I'll be getting King: The Phantom #3 of course. He's my numero uno hero and I've followed him from Moonstone to Dynamite (among other publishers like my collection of the Hermes Press newspaper strips books).

Evil Ernie #6. All the Chaos titles are on my list regularly. I try to grab all the Tim Seeley covers as well (Incidentally wasn't the Hack/Slash tribute cover neat? )

Lady Demon #4. I've been collecting the "Bombshell" covers for this series so far. Cover: Cedric Poulat

John Carter: Warlord of Mars #5. I'll be getting the Yonami (D) Cover. I tend to choose these based off best Dejah art

John Carter Warlord of Mars Special. Grabbing. No cover selection required but happier than hell its my fave Dynamite cover artist: Lucio Parrillo!

Army of Darkness #4. I'll be still running with this series even though Steve Niles has left but it's on a short leash. Tim Seely cover of course!

Pathfinder Origins #2 Cover B (Kevin Stokes) with Kyra looking badass on the cover AND by herself. The book is subtitled KYRA so what's with cover c having only Seelah on it? Meh, I will be trying to buy these with the best main character's cover art if possible. James L. Sutter (who has tons of Pathfinder writing behind him) I hope can pickup the awesomeness that Jim Zub built with Kyra (unfortunately this'll probably be before she falls for Merisel timeline-wise which is part of my fave bits in the past comics).

Twilight Zone Shadow & Substance #3. Jonathan Lau Cover C cause it looks the neatest of the three.

That's it for me this month!

I do the same but based on the best John Carter art. I'd like to see more covers (they always have several, after all) focused on him.
