  • Bill Mantlo & Butch Guice’s Swords of the Swashbucklers GN

A little unusual for a publisher. Dynamite is running a Kickstarter campaign to bring Swords back to print.

Swords of the Swashbucklers is the brainchild of Bill Mantlo – one of Marvel Comics’ most prolific writers and the co-creator of beloved Guardians of the Galaxy sensation, Rocket Raccoon! A pirate adventure on interstellar seas, the beloved Swords of the Swashbucklers series was illustrated by the phenomenal Jackson "Butch" Guice and has not seen print in over 25 years. It’s a story that’s long overdue for preservation as a high-quality, completely remastered trade paperback. More importantly, this Kickstarter project celebrates the far-reaching imagination of Bill Mantlo, a shining star of the comic industry whose career was tragically cut short in his prime by a hit-and-run accident. With pledges of support for Kickstarter rewards we will generate much-needed royalty income from this essential tale that will contribute to Mantlo’s continued medical care.

I doubt there are many fans of this book here, but this update is a neat thing...

There’s also been the talk about Swords of the Swashbucklers as Dynamite runs a kickstarter project to collect the series Mantlo did with Jackson Guice. The project soared past the initial goal and two stretch goals. With that, the publisher has made one final stretch goal and if obtained, there will be a new Swords of the Swashbucklers comic project with Guice and the Mantlo family involved.
...and good news about the man himself, if any of you were fans of his.

Recently the good news was announced that thanks to an agreement with Marvel, Mantlo would be moving out of a nursing facility and into his own home with the care he needs. He will also receive royalties from the Swords of Swashbucklers collection and any new series.
Good on Dynamite to be involved in this.
