  • TV Review: Legends of Tomorrow S4 E9 'Lucha de Apuestas'

After what seemed to be the longest hiatus ever, the Legends of Tomorrow return with a Mexican Wrestling themed episode that picks up where the show left off back in December. If you donít remember all that way back, a pair of men in black tried to kidnap Konane (Darian Martin), the magical Hawaiian werewolf guy and Mona (Ramona Young) helped him escape, though he hurt her in the process. Hank (Thomas F. Wilson) has doctored the video footage to make it look like Mona set Konane free causing Ava (Jes Macallan) to send Gary (Adam Tsekhman) to fire Mona. Of course Gary screws it up and Mona wipes his memory and escapes, finding Konane outside the hospital waiting for her. All of this and I have yet to mention any of the actual Legends.

Sara (Caity Lotz) takes the team to capture Konane but end up getting mixed into Monaís story when Zari (Tala Ashe) discovers the video footage had been doctored. She shows this to Nate (Nick Zano) who recognizes the number of the device that did it as his fatherís. Zari and Nate go to try and get Hankís phone while the rest of the team hunt Konane and find him back in 1961 Mexico posing as a masked wrestler. Constantine (Matt Ryan) turns out to be a bit of a fan and recognizes how much damage Konane is doing, knocking El Cura (Frank Gallegos) out as the hero of the people. The team has to go against the Time Bureau to set history right which pits Sara against Ava and their relationship doesnít survive.

The team sets up a fight between Konane and El Cura, but the Bureau steps in and Constantine, Ray (Brandon Routh), Mick (Dominic Purcell) and Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) helped to stop them with the crowd going wild. Mona is about to send Konane off to ancient Hawaii when one of Hankís men steps in and kills him. Mona loses it and shifts into some kind of were-creature and kills the man in black. Nate confronts his dad about the footage but pretends to be okay with it so he can try to get closer and find out what is really going on.
At the end is appears the Legends have a new powered teammate and are pitted against the Time Bureau once again. And next week theyíre all traveling in a motorhome. Itís good to have this show back. Thereís a level of complete insanity that you really donít know what theyíre going to do next. But itís a show that works better when fresh. The long hiatus was too long and should be avoided in the future.
